State Grange in Williamsport.
Col. KENTNER, of Mehoopany, was in
town yesterday purchasing candy, nuts and
and fruits at FITCH'S, for a Christmas en
tertainment for a Sunday School.
C. D. CAMT, late editor of the Tunkhan
nock Republican , is in town. He informs
us that he proposes to take up bis residence
in Minnesota.
Miss LIBBIE PUFF and Mr. TIP KINNEY,
and FRED E. SMITH, ESQ., all of Waverly,
N. Y., were the guests of Miss JULIA POW
ELL last evening.
M. KEEFE, a former Towanda boy, who is
now employed in the P. B. N. Y. It. It.,
made us a call yesterday. He is paying a
short visit to his friends in Overton, where
his wife has been staying for a little time.

A stranger went into the Parker house
yesterday, and thoughtlessly left the door
open, through which rushed the cold blasts
of a winter's day. Tbe air struck full on the
parrot which swung in a hoop over the office
counter, an 1 the bird piped out, " Shut that
door."
The stranger looked around in astonish
ment, but considered the remark as an im
pertinence and paid no attention to it. The
parrot craning its neck over the swing, while
its tail quivered with indignation at the stran
ger's neglect, again shouted out in a yoice

which rang through the room—"Shut that
door, you rascal, shut that door!"
The stranger, now thoroughly alarmed,
sprang to the entrance and closed the door at
once. When an explanation was given, the
stranger was much amused.— Bradford

Justin Morley died Sunday eve., Dec. lltli,
1881, in the Tlst year of his age. Funeral
ceremonies observed at the house Tuesday, at
1 o'clock p. m. A goodly assembly of rela
tives and friends were present. Sermon by
Rev. A. Lane. Casket and Hearse furnished
by J. O. Frost & Son, of Towanda. Inter
ed at the old church cemetery. An industri
ous, economicai and thriving farmer, an up
right, christian and an honest man, has gone
from among us to try the realities of the spir
it land. Peace to his dust: he is now at lest
at last from the cares and frettings, the tur
moils and brawlings, which have in a special
manner, characterised his domestic relations
in this life. *

The Board of Inquiry into the conduct
of the Ninth Massachusetts Regiment at
Yorktown and Richmond summoned nine
members last evening to answer a charge
of misconduct. All denied the charges,
and claimed that some of the officers
were endeavoring to clear themselves by
putting the blame on the men. The final
decision of the Board will be transmitted
to the Governor soon.
