.TAMES T. SHAUT is in town.
Rev. WILLIAM STERN, of Wysox, attended
church in this place, yesterday.
Mrs. SHERM AN, of Rernice spent Thanks
giving day with her parents in this place.
Mr. and Mrs. G. S. PECK of Athens spent
yesterday with WARREN IIII.L'S family in
this place.
ISRAEL WELLS, formerly night clerk at
the Ward House, spent Thanksgiving with
Tovvanda friends.
Judge MAYER only observed Thanksgiving
long enough to eat his turkey, and kept
right 011 with the Court.
Mr. M. C. MERCER'S family and "aunt.
FANNIE" spent ThaiiKsgiving with Reverend
and Mrs. ROSENMUI.LER in Sayre.
Mr. ESCAVOR, the young Brazilian who
has several times visited this place, ate his
turkey with friends here yesterday.
R. A. ELLIOTR and W. R. PARVIN, of
Philadelphia, are in town and will spend a
few days gunning hereabouts, Mr. A. E.

SAMUEL BUCK, Esq. and wife of Pik'wvere
in town yesterday on their way home from
the west where they had been visiting for
several weeks. Mr. IT. says he was favorably
impressed with the appearance of lowa and
Illinois,
J. O. FLOST'S Sons presented each man in
their employ fortunate enough to be the head
of a famiiv, with a turkey for yesterday's
dinner. The number of birds rebuircd was
39 and the aggregate cost to the generous
linn about #">o.
Mrs. CATHERINE KIRWIN of Towandu
township brought to town and sold on Mon
day nearly five hundred pounds of young
turkeys, besides kindly but unostentatiously
remembering some of her numerous
friends at the expense of several of the tinest
birds. Generous soul, "may she live long
and bo happy and be in heaven a mouth be
fore the devil knows she dead."
A number of young gentiemen of this
place find themselves unable to agree 011 the
question, " Is there any difference in a foot
squaie and a sqoarc foot''" Is there?
MIKE WALSH, who is now serving a term
in the Berks county prison, was an applicant
for Executive clemency at the meeting of the
pardon board on Tuesday, but the board re
ported adversely.
The boys, and girls too, had splend d times
"riding down liili" yesterday. What is tun
for them is great discomfort to predestrians
who are compelled to walk up hill 011 the
slippery side-walks.
RANDOLPH BOUGHT, now confined in the
Eastern Penitentiary under a sentence by
Judge MORROW, for burglary, made applica
tion to the pardon board for release this
week. lli case was continued, till next
meeting.
The attendance at the Presbyterian church
yesterday morning was fair, but the congre
gation was not nearly so large as it should
have been. Rev. Doctor STEWART, liev. C.
TT. WRIGHT' and Rev. C. T. HALLOW'ELL
ttcupied seats on the platform. Doctor
JTKWART delivered the discourse, which was
1 recital of the prominent events of the year
[nd a graphic and eloquent portrayal of the
