Personal.
Senator DAVIES has been in Philadelphia
this week.
Mrs. D. W. GORE of llornellsville, N. Y.,
was in town yesterday.
Miss LIBBIE BI.ACKMAM of this place is
teaching music in Sugar Run and has a large
class.
Mrs. SCOTT, of Towanda, is the guest of
Mr. BENJ. JONES on Exeter street.— Pittston
Press.
D. O. HOLLON and SMITH Bros, have re
paired t heir horse sheds in the rear of the M.
E. Church.
Capt. G. V. MVEU has been serving as a
juror in the U. S. Court, at Pittsburg for a
couple of weeks, and is home again.
Miss SARAH MOODY left for Topeka. Kan.,
this morning and will remain there sevoral
months visiting friends,
It was J. W, INGHAM, instead of BEN.I
ACKLKY, who officiated as one of the pall
bearers at Judge STALFORD'S funeral.
Mine host IIENRY of the " Henry House,"
has been improving his hostelrie by putting
down a wide stone walk along the front.
Mrs. HORACE PAINE, of Ehnira, is spend
ing a few weeks in Towanda, with her sisters,
Mrs. HENRY POWELL, and Mrs. E.J. MIN
GOS.
JOHN MARKLE, of Jeddo, Luzerne county,
was in town yesterday and purchased from
our well known dealers in horses, CHAS. !)•
HUMPHREY and G. M. CLARK, a pairof tine
Ilambletoni ins, for which he paid a good sum
hut got the worth of his money.
The Vestry of Christ Church have extend
ed a unanimous call to the Itev. Mr. ENOS
to become rector of the parish. The Rever
end gentleman visited this place a few weeks
since and officiated one Sunday for the con
gregation, to the entire satisfaction of all who
heard him. Should he accept the rectorship
we have uo doubt lie would be heartily wel
comed by the parishioners and find here a
pleasant home and large field for labor in the
Master's cause,

kept for a Thanksgiving dinner for some one.
We learn that RICHARD JOHNSON, an old
man of the pool tribe, living near the nail
mill, accidentally set fire to his clothing one
night last week, and was so badly burned
that he died Sunday.
The oyster supper given by the huPes of
the Baptist Cbureh last evening was a finan
cial snceess, and the attention paid to guests
while bountifully serving them, made the
time pass very pleasantly.
The Water Works will sink a crib in the
river below thfe brick yard and pump water
into their distributing reservoir as a tempora
ry moans of supplying their customers. A
large number of workmen are employed ou
the job and the Superintendent, hopes to be
ready to turn the water into the mains soon.
The list of registered doctors in this
county, now numbers an even hundred. The
one liundreth disciple of yEsculapius to com
ply with the law m this respect was MANUEL
1). GAMBLE, of East Troy. No medical
degree.

The next regular meeting of the Towanda
Musical Society will be held at the house of

"I too have caught the fever," said Mr.
Harvey B. F. Keller, recorder of deeds, Otta
wa, Kansas, "and have long been convinced
of the merits of St. Jacobs Oil. The princi
pal use to which the Oil has been devoted in
my family has been for rheumatism, which
disease it subdues with wonderful ouickuess.
Night express, No 15, which passed this
place about 11 o'clock last uigbt, left the track
at Wyalusing. We have not heard how bad
the wreck is, nor the cause of the accident.
That somebody was injured is evident from
thf fact that Dr. PRATT was sent down.—
No. 8, due from the south at 4 o'clock this
morning has not arrived yet.
D. 11. BARSTOW, only son of the late DA
VID F. BARSTOW. Esq., of this place, died at
his home near En n, Md., yesterday morn
ing, aged about 4',) tears. Mr, BARS row was
born in Towanda an I lived here until 4 years
ago, when he pure..: da farm in Maryland
and moved there with his family.
Mr. BARSTOW was educated fora physician
but never practiced; lie, however, engoged
in the drug business for several years after
completing his studies. In 1803 he married
Miss ANNIE Fox, who, with three children
mourn his death in the prime of life. The
deceased was noted for his fine social quali
ties and had a large circle of devoted friends,
who will read this announcement of his ear
ly death with sincere sorrow.
Dr. JOHNSON, brother-in-law of the deceas
ed, left for Philadelphia last evening to ac
company the remains to this place. The fu
neral will take place to-morrew afternoon at
the residence of Mrs. BARSTOW, mother of
the deceased, on Main street, at 2 o'clock.—
