Editor MORGAN of the Troy Register made
us a call this week.
Lawyer WILLIAMS is attending to business
iu the United States Court, Pittsburg.
Miss CHAMBERLIN of Dalton. Mass., is vis
iting her cousin, Mr. W. A. CHAMBERLIN.
Miss LILLIE MERCUR has gone to Sayre to
spend the winter with her sister, Mrs. Ro*
SEN MILLER.
Mrs. A. J. NOBLE of Troy, and Mrs. H.
M. GOODRICH of Denver, Colorado, ore vis
iting in iliis place. They are guests of Mrs.
F. R. BKAUND.
Our townsman, G. R. MACFARLANE, Esq ,
has accepted a lucrative position as Engineer
of an extensive Coal Co. in West Virginia.—
His family will remain in Towando.
Mr. and Mrs. WATT, of Glasgow, Scotland,
and Miss JULIA MOSCRIP, of Burlington,
were visiting Commissioner RANSOM'S fam
ily in Ulster this week.
THOS. ABBOTT, of former citizen of this
place who took GREELY'S advice after serv
ing in the Union army until the close of the
war, and went west, is visiting his friends
iu this yicinity.
Col. E. SMITH of this place and J. M. C.
RANCK of Scranton have formed a copartner
ship for the practice of the legal profession
iu the latter city. Both gentlemen are able
lawyers and from their long experince will
command a large business. Colonel SMITH
will retain his residence iu Towanda and at
teud to his practice in the courts of this coun
ty.

There will be no in the Episcopal
Church to-morrow.
A new barber at the Ward House shaving
parlor. Customers wont have'to wait to-day.
Mr. FKLCH has just placed an ornate show
ease in the front of his store for displaying
shoes. It is very neat.
It is rumored that the Reverend Mr. ENOS
has been invited to become Rector of Christ
Church and it is expected he will accept.
Davis' Hair Restorer is the best.
Doctor TAYLOR at the church of the Mes
siah to-morrow morning will take for his
theme: "Seeing that which is invisible." At
the evening service, 7 o'clock, " How is man
sayed, and from what ?"
An effort is being made to get JOSH BIL
LINGS here to lecture. He has promised to
come if a sufficient number of tickets can be
sold, and subscription lists will be placed at
the stores of S. P. WHITCOMB and C. T.
KIRBY.
The ladies of the Baptist Church will hold
an oyster supper in the MeCabe store, Mercur
block, Wednesday eveniug Nov. 16, com
mencing at 5 o'clock and continuing during
the evening. A cordial invitation is extend
ed to all to call and get supper.

Sheriff DEEGAN of Sullivan county is par
ticularly anxious to learn the whereabouts of
one EDWARD REMSNYDER who lately es
caped from the Laporte jail, where he was
confined awaiting trial for robbery. The fu
gitive from justice is described as being six
feet high, good looking, compactly buiit and
wore, when he left his late boarding place,
dark clothes. A reward is offered for the re
turn of the fugitive.

The Episcopal Mite Society will meet next
Monday evening at T. C. DKLANO'S on Pine
street. Both Mrs. DKLANO and the officers
of the Society will be happy to see all their
friends on the occasion, it being the first meet
ing of the season.
