The Plymouth, Wis., Reporter of the 22d,
s>ays a graceful tribute to the memory of Mrs.
Doctor MONTANYE, who visited in that city
only a short time before her death :
A SAD DEMISE.— Mrs. L. de la Montanye,
who it will be remembered was a guest at
Senator Smith's the past summer, died of con
sumption, Saturday afternoon, at the home of
her father, Mr. Wm. Chamberlin. Towanda,
Pa. Subsequent to her Plymouth visit, she
\v as a guest in the family of Dr. Eyer, Wau
paca, where she was taken ill, and tbeinsidu
ous disease taking a more aggravated form,
Dr. Eyer, recognizing that all hopes of an ul
timate recovery would prove futile, immedi
ately took her home, whare her last days
were spent among loving friends and rela
tives, whose willing ministrations proved un
availing. Mrs. Montanye was endowed with
rare graces and accomplishments and won
many friends while here, all of whom will re
gret to hear of her early and sudden demise.
The deceased was thirty-two years of age, a
cousin of Mrs. P. 11. Smith and Mrs. Dr.
Eyer, and leaves a husband and two children.

FIREMEN'S PARADE POSTPONED.— Owing
to the death of the President of the United
States, the annual parade of the Towanda
Fire Department is hereby postponed from
the 22d mst., uutil Thursday, October Gth.

Last week at the Pennsylvania State Fair
and Pittsburg Exposition, the following Sew.
mg machines were on exhibition, viz: Whee
ler and Wilson, Home, Singer, New Home,
White, Domestic, Wilson, Household and
Davis. The Judges awarded the Silver Med
i'l to the Davis, for the best double thread
sowing machine; first prize for the best plain
sowing; first prize for the best fancy sewing ;
first prize for the best silk embroidery.
The fifth annual encampment of the Grand
Army of the Republic of Bradford county
end vicinity, and soldiers and sailors, will be
held on the fair grounds, in East Towanda.
on the 11th, 12th and 13th days of October,
1381. It is earnestly requested that the dif
ferent Posts, and the soldiers and sailors, will
loud their aid in making this encampmeut a
grand success. General orders will be issued

and Orphan's Benefit Fund at each assess

per vear and pays a sick benefit of $3 per
