The County Fair opens to-day.
A protcstant gentleman who attended the
Catholic Church Sunday evoning says the
pastor, Rev. C. F. KKLLY, not only paid an
eloquuent tribute to the memory of the dead
President, but made a capital practical appli
cation of the sad lesson.
A VALUABLE " COI.LIE." —In the Yard of
senator J. D. CAMERON'S residence, Front
and State streets, could be seen the past Week
a very fine specimen of the " collie " or shep
ard dog recently imported from England. It
was obtained from a gentleman in London, at
the instance of one of the members of the
hanking firm of COUCOUAN, RIGOS & Co.,
Washington, D. C., and was presented to
Mrs. J. D. CAMERON.— Harrisburg Patriot.
Miss LORING, a returned Syria missionary,
will deliver a free lecture in the Presbyterian
Church this evening, on the subject of foreign
missions. The ladies and Sunday School
scholars are invited to attend.

States, the annual parade of the Towanda
Fire Department is hereby postponed from
the 22d inst., until Thursday, Oetoher 6th.

Last week at the Pennsylvania State Fair
aud Pittsburg Exposition, the following Sew
ing machines were on exhibition, viz: Whee
ler and Wilson, Home, Singer, New Home,
White, Domestic, Wilson, Household and
Davis. I'he Judges awarded the Silver Med
al to the Duvis, for the best double thread
sewing machine; first prize for the best plain
sewing; first prize for the best fancy sewing;
first prize for the best silk embroidery.
The fifth annual encampment of the Grand
Array of tho Republic of Bradford county
and vicinity, and soldiers and sailors, will be
held on the fair grounds, in East Towanda,
on the 11th, 12th and 13th days of October,
1881. It is earnestly requested that the dif
ferent Posts, and the soldiers and sailors, will
lend their aid in making this encampment a
grand success. General orders will be issued
