CONTEMPTIBLE DODGE.—The Bradford
Argus printed at Towanda, Pa., this week
contained the following advertisement :
TKRRIBLE EXCITKMKXT.— The world trembles
over the great misfortune that has befallen our
President, James A*. barfield, and at the news
which prevails now in Towanda, Pa., about the
Great llostoti Clothing House which has ,iust opened
in Means' block, Main street, Towanda, Pa.
Language is too fee Die to express the con
tempt this lirni should be held in. Working
on the .sympathies of the people, bowed down
in grief at the death of a beloved President,
to draw attention to its business, the Great
Boston Clothing House of Towanda has belit
tled itself, and if the citizens of that vicini
ty are patriotic in the least degree, they wili
in future patronize some other establishment.
—EI m int Adce rl iser.
The censure of tlie AdcerCiser is none too
strong and is heartily endorsed by this com
munity. The indecency displayed in the ad
vertisement, was discussed and condemned by
all who read it. So incensed were the busi
ness men here that they culled upon the pa
pers inserting it and requested that it be dis
continod. The man who is mean enough to
attempt to draw attention to his business by
coupling his advertisement with a noticeof so
great a calamity as the death of our President,
should be given a wide berth by decent people,
and lie probably will be. To the credit of
thiseommunity we are glad to inform ourKl
mira eotemporary that the firm who have
made themselves so notorious are only inter
lopers here, and that none of ourold estab
lished houses would have been guiltyof such
an outrage.
