The Daily Review. EDITORS . S. W. ALVORD. NOBLE N.ALVORD Towanda, Pa., Monday, Sept. 5, 1881. "Daily Mleview" only #9 cents pe month. Try it. The Republican Convention meets to morrow. A full county ticket is to be nominated. For Prothonotary there is but one candidate, the present incumbent Mr. G. W. Blackmail, who has lllled the office with entire acceptibility for the past three years, and is one ol the most competent, worthy men in the county. His reuomiuatiou by acclamation will be a deserved compliment. For Sheriff there are only two candi dates and the canvass has been conduct ed with less spirit than any since the or ganization of the party. Both aspirants are competent and honest so that the con vention can make no mistake. Father of them will be entirely acceptable to the people and poll a full vote. For County Treasurer and Registerand Recorder there appears to be more strife, and quite a number of candidates are urg guitig their claims with a good deal of feeling and the convention will have to act with discretion if harmony is secured. The same is true in regard to Commis sioners. The unfair and unjust opposi tion manifested 011 the part of some tow ard Mr. Bradford has been as unwise as it is malicious. lie has served the people faithfully and honestly and is en titled to credit, as are both his colleagues. The attempt to cast reproach upon the Board ought to be met by the delegates with a fair and deserved vindication. People differ, and properly too, 011 the question of who should be nominated and if a majority of the party desire some one else in place of Mr. Bradford it is their unquestionable right and priviledge to use all honorable means to secure such an end, but the base attempt to traduce him should be rebuked whether he be made the nominee or not. What we have respect to Mr. Bradford applies with 'equal force to Messrs. Ransom and Hurst. We hope the Convention will act wisely and present a ticket wor thy of the party and our great county. Some years ago in one of the counties of New York, a worthy man was tempted to drink until drunk. In the delirium of drunkenness he went home and murder ed his wife in the most barbarous man lier. lie was carried to the jail while drunk and kept there through the night. Awakening in the morning and looking around upon the walls, and seeing the bars upon the windows, he exclaimed: "Is this a jail?" "Yes, you are in jail," answered some one. "What am 1 here for?" was the earnest inquiry. "For murder," was the answer. "Does my wife know it?" "Your wife know it?" said some one. "Why, it was your wife whom you kill ed." On this announcement he dropped sud denly, as if he had been struck dead. Let it be remembered that the constable who carried him to jail, sold him the liquor which caused his drunkenness; the jus tice who issued the warrant was one of those who signed his license; the sheriff who hung him also sold liquor and kept a ten pin alley. Idie Times special says: If a case should arise where the public interests really demanded the Executive signature, the papers' might be taken to the Presi dent now. His absence from the Execu tive office has not been as long as when Hayes visited the Pacific coast, when ho interests suffered. A cabinet offi cer yesterday said if he had half an hour to talk with the President he could trans act all the needed business with him in one minute. The truth probably is not Over two of the cabinet officers have dis played any special anxiety to have Arthur called to act. MORE 1)0 YOU WANT? Than the Fifteen Years CONTINUOUS TRADE OP |H.
