The very severe drought through which this section is now passing tends greatly to make a shortage of a few of our leading crops. Corn will hardly a fair yield, potatoes are " few in a hill," while the "pan cake" pro duction for which Bradford county is noted, will fall off" very much. Cur honey is scarce too, occasioned by the severity of last winter, and the failure to house the bees, which will very much mitigate any anguish which may be superinduced by the absence of that pala table and substantial breakfast dish during the coming winter. MONROE PERSONALS.— Mrs. D. J. Sweet with her sprightly little son, Lee, are spend ing a vacation with friends in Williamsport and Ralston, just for a change of air and scenery, and an exchange of civilities. Mrs. Jennie Rliinevault has returned from interviewing Rev. Morris and family and oth er friends in Mainsburg. We are rejoiced that the Doctor (Hall) al lows us to say that W. A. Park, Esq. is de cidedly improving. A speedy recovery to him. r * r* Monroeton, Aug. 25, 1881. CAMP GARFIELD, WILKESBARRK, \ PA., Aug. 24th, 1881. j Company A "all present or accounted for." Private D. Robinson was granted leave of ab sence by Gen. Sigfried. on account of a tele gsuiii from home stating that his mother was just alive. The company was out aud drilled an hour before breakfast, this morning. Bat tallion drill took place fro n ten toe leven for ty-live, and the Co did sdlendidly,considering that they are with the regiment but once or twice a year. The camp is now all arranged, and discipline is enforced. Men can go out of camp only on passes from the Colonels of the respective regiments. The REVIEW is received in camp and is eagerly sought by the men. J. A. W. The picnic of the Ghent M. E. Sunday School at Bond Ilill Lake on the 20th was a grand success, ltev. S. F. Wright gave us a good speech after which dinner was served to all. The time was well occupied with singing and cruising oil tue Lake. On the 23d Samuel Davidson of Ghent left a voung and valuable horse. Disease un known. I. L. Young of Ghent has the boss hen af ter all. About two weeks ago this wonderful hen laid an egg measuring 7 1-2 inches the long way and 6 inches the other. On the 23rd of this month she dropped another measuring 7 7-8 inches by 6 2-8 inches weigh ing 3 ounces Can any hen beat it? Y. Mrs. W. 11. I). Green and children have, gone to Binghamton. Mr Smith Nichols and wife have gone to visit friends in Ithaca. Mrs. Dudley of Owego is visiting her daugh ter, Mrs. Newman. Miss Clara Lewis of Towanda is visiting the Misses Moscrip. Quite a number of Towandians passed through town the other day, enroute to the Poor House, among the number were Pro fessor and Mrs. Ryan.
