Are you getting ready to go to Watkins
Glen on Tuesday?
JAMES PETERSON'S (colored) babe died
yesterday morning.
A company of North Towandians and a
few friends from this place will visit the
poor house to-day and pic uie in the woods
near that institution.
The Catholics will hold a pic-nic at Barclay
next Monday, Aug, 15, and invite the public
to participate. Train leaves for Barclay at 8
o'clock a. m. Returning will leave Foot of
Plane at (:B0 p. m. Fare for round trip, only
50 cents.
We learn the excursion to Watkins on the
10th promises to he very successful. If hard
work, good management and a careful ar
rangement for the comforts of excursionists
ever win success, we arc certain our Wyalu
sing friends will have it, for we have never
known an excursion planned in which these
conditions were more completely met. With
out doubt many from Towanda and all along
the i-oute will avail themselves of the unpre
cedented low rates.

THE CAMPING GROUND.— The ground cho*
sen for the encampment of the Third Brigade
August 23-29, is probably as suitable for the
purpose as any that could have been selected
in tiiis locality. It is two miles from the
central business portion of the city, and al
most three-quarters of a mile from the South
Wilkesßarre terminus of the South Main
street railway. Lying upon a prominent ele
vation, good air and extensive views of the
beautiful surroundings are assured, and while ;
the site is less easy of access than Lee Park,
it possesses other advantages, at least to the j
eyes of those who selected it, which are j
deemed parinount to accessibility. The wa
ter supply, their being none in the lie d, will j
be procured at neighboring farm bouses, and !
conducted to the grounds in pipes. There is !
no reason why the soldiers may not enjov !
themselves there, if they mav do so any
where while on duty, and they will not he in-1
terrupted in their deliberations by many in- 1
quisitive visitors as more labor than the aver
age citizen cares to expend will be required to
reach them. The place is good as any in which j
to spend a week under military survilunce, |
audit' it does smack a little of barrenness and i
isolation, the return of the soldiers to the
busy marts of trade will be the more enjoy
able.— Wilkesßarre Union Leader.
We are constantly receiving orders for " Lum
Smith's Imitation Stained glass," and are ready to
give our patrons the full benefit of an inexpensive
and handsome decoration by placing it on any glass
whether door or window, large size or small glass,
gieen or wiiite, round or square, in fact any posi
tion, shape or kind of frame or glass that needs
shading from the rays of the sun, or from the gaze
of inquisitive eyes. Thankful for the very liberal
patronage bestowed since we have received the
agency of this Imitation, we shall by a strict atten
tion to business, hoping to merit a continuance of
the same. To those who have heard of the •'lmi
tation Glass," and have not seen it, we extend a
cordial invitation to examine into its real merits,
and ask the prices for which it can be obtained, we
are prepared to contract with churches, halls, or
or other public buildings, and warrant all of out
work to surpass in beauty the genuine stained glass
and our prices are less than one-fourth the cost of
the same. Those in need of anything of this kind
or who are lovers of art, whether they wish to pur
chase or not, are respectfully invited to examine
the same at C'UAS. F. CROSS' Book Store.
