Mr. AVERY FRINK, builder of the jail and
poor house, is in town. He is on his way
home from a prolonged visit in the west.
WILL SMITH and GEORGE FAIRCIIILD were
down the liver fishing yesterday and took two
tine bass, the combined weight of which was
nearly live pounds.
Miss JENNIE MILLER, of Waverly, who
has been visiting Mrs. A. S. GORDON, on
York Avenue, has returnrd home accompani
ed by 31 rs. GORDON.
Mr. HEN P. SEXTON, late of this office, has
secured a good situation upon the Towanda
Journal. He is an industrious young man
and has fallen into good hands.— Blossbvrg

LESTER FROST writes to a triend here that
he has several thousand watermellons 011 his
farm near Richmond, Ya. LET'S Towanda
friends would make a big hole in the "patch"
if they were all there.
Mr. EDMUND HORTON, of Terrytown, was
a caller at this office yesterday. It was his
73d birth-day anniversary and one of the
tbiugs he did to commemorate it was to re
new his subscription to the REVIEW, which
he reads without the aid of glasses.
Doctor WILLIAM HENRY MKRCUR and sis
ter, Miss ANNA ELIZABETH MERCUR, are
enjoying a week's vacation at Lake Carey,
near Tunkhannock, as the guests of Miss
STERLING, of Meskoppen, who has a pleas
ant cottage at that quite celebrated summer
resort.
Mr.and Mrs. W. A.CIIAMBERLIN and their
grand-son. Master FRANK MONTANYE, re
turned from Wisconsin yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. Doctor MONTANYE was much better
when they left Waupacca, and they think
will soon enjoy better health than she has for
some years past.
Miss 31. ANNIE PETRIE, of Barclay, who
graduated with the highest honors of her
class, at the Elmira College, at the recent
commencement, has been secured as a teach
er in the Collegiate Institute for the coming
year. The Principal and patrons of the In
stitute are to be congratulated.
The REVIEW is two years old to-day,
We learn that JOHN CARMODY, a farmer
residing near Greenwood, was kicked by his
horse yesterday morning, from the effects of
which he died before noon.
We learn the excursion to Watkins on the
16tli promises to be very successful. If hard
work, good management and a careful ar
rangement for the comforts of excursionists
ever sviu success, we are certain our Wyalu
sing friends will have it. for we have never
known an excursion planned 111 which these
conditions were more completely met. With
out doubt many from Towanda and all along
the route will avail themselves of the unpre
cedented low rates.
Pursuant to call of the Chairman, the Dem
ocratic County Committee met yesterday. On
motion, WILLIAM MAXWELL was re-elected
Chairman and S. W. BUCK Secretary. GEO.
STEVENS, W. S. DOBBINS and JOHN BALD
WIN were chosen delegates to the State Con
vention. T. R. JORDAN and S. W. BUCK
were elected Senatorial delegates. The com
mittee decided to leave the time of holding
the county convention to the discretion of the
Chairman.
The Greenbackers met here yesterday and
nominated the following county ticket:

of the County Committee and F. G. JOHN
SON, Secretary. Resolutions were adopted
endorsing the National platform adopted at
Chicago, and opposing any fusion or change
of name.

The Bradford County Medical Society met
at the office of Dr. D. N. Newton, in Towan
da. The President. Dr. O. 11. Rockwell, in
the chair. The following named members
were present: D. N. Newton, G. F. Ilorton,
O. H. Rockwell, P. A. Quick, W. J. Ilillis. C.
K. Lndd, F. G. Newton, T. B. Johnson, Vol
uey Hornet, S. 31, Woodburn and E. D. I'avne.
The minutes of the last meeting were read
and approved.
Dr. Rockwell, who had been appointed to
read a paper at this meeting, stated that, on
account of pressure in professional busi
ness, he had not been able to properly pre
pare the paper and fulfill the duty; but if the
society would extend the time allotted to him,
he would do so at the next meeting. The
time so asked was granted.
Dr. Rockwell then made a verbal report of
cases of diphtheria, of a fatal character, con
fined to one family. He also made a verbal
report of a case of disease of the blood vessels,
resulting in gangrene, epilepsey and cerebral
softening.
Dr. Ladd presented for Dr. Kilburn a case
of tumors occurring in various parts of the
body.
The presentation of these cases called out a
full and free discussion 011 the part of the
members present, on each case.
Dr. Johnson presented the name of Dr.
William Patton Griffiths, for membership in
the society, which being referred to the cen
sors present, and favorably reported on, he
was unanimously elected a member.
It was also ordered that the reports of the
Society lie offered to the Bradford Repcbli
can and TOWANDA REVIEW, for publication,
in adition to those specified at the last meet
ing/
The Society then adjourned, to meet at the
office of Dr. I). N. Newton, in Towanda, on
Wednesday, Sept. 7th, 1881, at 2 p. 111.; at
which time the election of officers for the en
suing year will take place, and such other
business be transacted as may be necessary in
closing the business of the past year.

The President's Condition.

The President has been very easy du
ring the day, and continued to take the
nourishment allowed, without gastric dis
turbances. The discharge of pus from
the wound is quite abundant, and it is ev
ident that thorough drainage has been se
cured by yesterday's operation. The de
gree of fever differs little from that of
yesterday. The pulse is 106, temperature
101.9, respiration 19.
Judge Colt, of the Massachusetts Su
pienie Bench, committed suicide by shoot
iug himself at Pittsfleld yesterday.
