The following is said to be an infallable
cure for cholera morbus if used at an early
stage. Take equal parts of the tincture of
cayenne pepper, tincture of opium, tincture
of rheubarb, essence of peppermint and
spirits of camphor. Mix well. Dose, 16 to
JO drops in a little cold water, according to
age and violence of symptoms, repeated every
fifteen or twenty minutes until relief is ob
tained.
The following particulars of a reported
outrage in the Adirondacks, will he read with
interest by our readers from the fact the
heroic lady mentioned is the wife of a former
Towandian. Mr. BULL was horn and lived
here untill he was grown to manhood. His
father was the late Col. JAS. P. BULL. The
Senator refurred to is not ex-Senator PLAIT
of New York, but Senator PLATT a brother
in-law of Mr. BULL, who also lived here at
one time and was associated with Gen. IIOYT,
in the management of the old Towanda Acad
emy. The account is taken from the Phila
delphia Press of Friday:
Chairman George Bull of the Democratic
city executive committee and a prominent
member of the Philadelphia bar was seated at
breakfast yesterday morning in the Girard
House perusing a newspaper at the same time,
when his eye fell up m a paragraph which
caused his cheek to turn pale and his blood to
almost curdle in his veins. It was a dispatch
from Troy, New York, stating that Charles
Parker, a guide in the Adirondacks at Blue
-Mountain Lake, while guiding Mrs. George
Bull, the day previous, from Forked Lake to
Long Lake, where she was to have been the
guest of ex-Senator Platt, had committed an
outrageous assault upon her, almost strang
ling her and and tearing her elotnes to pieces
in the struggle. Mr. Bull knew that the lady
referred to was his wife, who was visiting iii
that locality, and for an instant lie nearly
fainted. Chief Clerk John E. Wilson hap
pened fortunately to be at hand, and Mr. Bu 1
was assisted to his own room, where he re
ceived the sympathy of iiis many friends who
had learned of the terrible occurrence from
the newspapers. The unfortunate husband
was entreated to keep up his heart, and was
repeatedly assured that the news must be
exaggerated. While deeply sensible of the
devotcdness of his many warm friends, Mr.
Bull was naturally placed in such a position
that lie could not rem lin calm, lie bore him
self bravely for a time, but saon broke down j
and his only desire seemed to get where lie ;
could obtain reliable intelligence of his wife's |
condition. Accordingly lie took the limited \
express train at 1.80 for New York, intending
to go from there directly to the scene of the j
assault in the Adirondack Mountains and re- :
join his wife as soon as possible. A number j
of sympathizing companions accompanied !
Mr. Bull to the depot, and each one express- i
e l the fervent hope that he would tind his !
wife safe and uninjured. Last evening he ;
sent the following dispatch from New York
to Mr. Wilson at the Girard House:
A dispatch from Holland says she is all right.— j
Will wait here till to-morrow.
Mr. Wilson said to a I'ress lvporter last
night, " I feel sure that the despatch in the
morning palters was greatly overstated. Mrs
Hull was a strong, plucky little woman, and I
am sure that 110 bodily harm has come to her
except, perhaps, a few scratches from her
struggle with the vidian. About two months
ago Mr. and Mrs. Bullgave up house-keeping
in West Philadelphia and came to board at
this hotel. Mrs. Hull was a lively, well
spoken lady, and speedily became a great
favorite with the other hoarders in the house.
She is of medium height, and very preposses
sing and attractive in her appearance. A
week ago she left home for the Adirondack*,
and Mr. Bull intended to follow Iter sis soon
a* he could arrange his business. Mrs. Bull
was accompanied bv her mai 1 servant, who
was capable of a Hording her ample protec
tion. On Tuesday Mr. Bull received a dis
patch from his wife, saying that she had met
with tin accident, but without stating the
nature of it. That worried her husband a
great deal, and when lie saw the news in the
papers he was completely upset.
