Rev. L. COLE, of Jcrmyn, Lackawanna co.,
formerly pastor of the 31. E. church, Wyalu
siug, is spending a vacation with his old par
ishioners and neighbors in the latter place.
Rev. ADDISON IIENRY and family of Phil
adelphia are visiting 31 rs. ll. 's brother, Rev.
11. S. STEEN, in Wysox. The Reverend
gentleman preached in the brick church last
Sunday and will occupy the same pulpit next
Lord's day.
Mr. C. D. HUMPHREY and wife, of Tow

3lr. and Mrs. DAUER. of Taoy, drove over
to this place 3londay evening to be present
at the Gerniania Band concert, an evidence
that matrimony has not spoiled their ta-te
for good music. They retuhied yesterday af
ternoon.
3lr. OTT ARSON is fully pursuaded that ad
vertising pays, as lie has been over-run with
business. He has been fortunate enough to
secure a good assistant, FRANK *E. MORRIS,
of Lansingburg, X. Y.. and hopes now to be
able to keep up with orders.
A. S. SMITH, who was a commissioner of
this county some forty years ago and for 35
years past, a resident of Cedar Falls, lowa,
and E. W. Ross, of Jamestown, X'. 3*., both
former residents of Pike, have been visiting
their brother-in-law, ex-Commission"! 1 JOHN
BALDWIN, in Leßaysvilie. He brought
them here yesterday to take the train for
their homes.
3lr. and 3lrs. R. A. PACKER gave a grand
full dress reception at their elegant mansion
in Sayre last evening. SINGF.RHOFF, of EL
rnira, furnished the music and 31rs. JONES,
the famous Binghamton ' caterer, provided
the refreshments. 3lany guests from differ
ent parts of the country were present and all
" went merry as a marriage bell.'' The fol

ANOTHER OLD CITI/EN DEAD.—WILLIAM
MIX, Esq., 0110 of the oldest, most widely
known and highly respected citizens of this
borough, quietly passed away at half-past ten
o'clock yesterday morning, after a lingering
illness, aged nearly 72 years.
Mr. Mix was the eldest son of the late Col.
IIIRAM MIX. ami was born in Wysox town
ship August 8, ISO!). lb> removed with bis
father to this place while a boy, and for some
time was employed in his father's store. lie
was also engaged with bis father staging and
mail contracting 011 the route between Klmira
and Wilkesßarre. When the Croton water
works were constructed for the City of Xew
York, himself and the late DANIEL SKAULE,
of Montrose, were associated in a large con
tract on the job. Since then he has lived qui
etly in this place, occupying the paternal
homestead. He took but little interest in
politics, but was frequently chosen to liill po
sitions of honor and trust in the borough
government, lie had served very ctliciently
us poormaster for many years, and was re
elected to the otlice last winter.
In January IS 12 Mr. Mix was married to
Miss ANGELUQUE PREVOST, with whom he
had ever since lived happily. Two children
were born to them and with the mother sur
vive him. Mr. Mix was devotedly attached
to his family and his home has always been
I one of the pleasantost and most attractive in
Towauda, and his death will be a severe and
I trying blow to his bereaved wife and children.
.Mr. Mix had apparently been a remarka
bly healthy maiquntil the last few years, and
gave but slight perceptible evidence of de
cline until last winter, lie was confined to
his room for several months, but his death
was not the result of organic disease, but a
gradual giving way of the vital system.
The immediate family of the decased are
his widow and two children, JOHN W. MIX,
Esq., and Mrs. 31. 31. SPALDING. lie also
! leaves one broth U' and four sisters, 3lr. IIAR

BARSTOW, Mrs. Col. .MEANS and Mrs JOSEPH
KINGSBURY, all of whom reside here.
The funeral will take place at 5 o'clock to
morrow afternoon from the family residence.
