Our watchful Athens correspondent sends
us the following:—Monday morning ADNA
IVINGSLEY, a resident of Smithtield, 72 years
of age, was caught by a freight train just this
side of the Athens bridge and carried upon
the cow-catcher of the engine to Green's
Landing before lie was discovered, lie had
severa had bruises on his body and one bone
of his right leg broken near the ankle. The
train men carried him into HIRAM FARNS
WORTIIS where he was made comfortable,
and Dr ALLEN summoned to attend the in
juries. His friends soon afterward moved
him to his home. The old gentleman is en
tirely ilea'. He had been visiting friends in
Sayre and contrary to advice took the rail
road track 011 his return. He held his cane
and hat with a firm grasp and remembered
passing the tannery, but said he was pretty
nearly tired out holding to the engine.
TRAGIC ENDING OK A DRUNKEN QUARREL
—On Saturday CHAS. A. DUTTOX, oF Litch
field, who had been employed in Wihnot at
bark-peeling, met his death in a very singular
and melancholy manner. A number of the
boys of the camp had been at Wyalusing in
dulging freely in liquor during the day.—
Toward night they started hack in a bark rig
giiur, but bad proceeded only about four miles
when a quarrel arose betivee DUTTON and an
other of the men named RANDOLPH, in
which the former was the aggressor. They
had a cliuch in which DUTTON was struck
several times in the face, and when RAN
DOLPH released his hold DUTTON dropped to
the ground dead. Dr. IIOIIET, held an in
quest Sunday, and the jury returned a verdict
that death was caused by " cerebal apoplexy,
brought on by drinking and excitement, in
attempting to fight one RANDOLPH," No ar
rest was made. The remains were taken to
Litchfield for burial.
PARK CONCERT. —Regardless of cloudy
skies and h/lit rains, our noble Germania
Band fulfilled irs announced programme last
night. Although basso STUI.EX, and others
were unfortunately absent, the entire music
al performance was excellent. No. 1, the
CIIAS. 11. SEKLEY March, composed by Mr.
BASTKRT, of Philadelphia, and presented in
manuscript to and named after our down
town popular hotel keeper, is aw, 1 harmoi -
ized, •finely constiueted and pleasing mov •
ment, a march which will wear. No. 2, by
GREENBACK was the gem. No. 3, Comet
Polka was good; the trilling of WALLACE
KEEPER'S clarionet was typical of the SI m
mering of the waning comet. In three num
bers, rich runs were given to the baritone,
Mr. KINGSBURY, and lie did them full jus
tice. In the last number were fine unisons
between baritone and B flat trombone, most
effectively played by Mr. FRED CVILMOX.
Mastro, WALKER and Mr. FRED SMITH gave
no noticabie solos. The children, to their
great credit, ranged themselves like two rows
of pins, north and south of the pagoda, and
were respectfully quiet.

The President.
The reports from the President were

which necessitated the operation on Sun
