PIIINNEY have been very much an noyed and considerably frightened the last two or three nights by unaccountable and mysterious doings at their residence corner of Third and Bridge streets. Night before last —Tuesday, between 8 and ID o'clock they heard a knock at the door, and on answering it no one was found at the door, but immedi ately another knock was heard at the next door, and so on all around, and on going to the door every time there was no one there. Last evening—Wednesday, the performance was repeated, and a large cobble stone was thrown through the window into the house. Officers MOFKIT and JOHNSON WELLES were called, but did not succeed in capturing the offender, although lie made himself heard while they were there. Whoever he is, he is very agile in bis movements, being able to knock at the door and get oil' tin- steps before he can be seen.or caught. It is certainly a very mysterious affair, and what it means or what the motive of this berson can be, Mr. PIIINNEY and bis family are utterly at a loss to know. Wo understand other families in tlie vicinity have been annoyed in the same way, and probably by the stiuie person. Ston s have boon thrown through the win dows of Mr. ROACUE'S house, who lives near by, several limes. — Journal.
