Will you attend the pie nie at Weston's

The first green corn of the season is on
sale at JORDAN'S market, and Mr. IIILL, the
obliging Superintendent, has our thanks for
a bountiful supply.
A DAY IN THE WOODS.— Christ Church
congregation and Sunday School are intend
ing to hold a Pic Nie at Weston's on Wednes
day next, the one held there last year proving
so enjoyable. Full particulars will be given
hereafter. Friends of the Church are invi
ted to join the pic nic. Those who attend
will please bring provisions, and a lunch will
bespread out on the tables, of which all will
partake in common. Tickets can be pro
cured of the teachers.
The fact that so few articles are lost in the
mails is accounted for by the strictness en
fore'd by the post ofiice department and es
pecially in the railway service. All delays,
for example, in the regular car reports to be
made by the clerks, are punished by reduc
tion of salary or removal from the service.
Employes and local agents are also required
to report, if possible, the cause of all fail
ures to connect with mails at division termini
aud other places, and to endeavor to inform
themselves of the reason of delay and failure.
The tools in the mail ears, recently intro
duced, to be used in ease of an accident, are
to be carefully looked after. All lines, a re
cent order says. 011 arriving at Jersey City,
will take the hatchets and saws from their
places and lock them in a closet iu the
car, making sure that a mail lock is placed on
the closet door. The head clerk of the crew,
on entering the car at Jersey City, will see
that the tools are taken from the closet and
placed in their respective positions, before
(he train starts. Prompt leport to be made
if any of the tools are missed.
It would hardly be supposed that letters for
Washington, D. C., would be sent to Wash
ington, Pa., yet such mistakes are of frequent
occurrence, and many packages for the lat
ter place are opened and examined.
To the end that none of our numerous read
ers in tins borough may plead ignorance of
the law, we re-publish the new dog ordiuance
with the suggestion that the borough author
ities are in "dead earnest,'' and will see to it
that the law is enforced. "A word to the
wise is sufficient":
OKDINANCE.
At a special meeting of the Council held July 11,
1831, at which all the members were present except
C'ouncilmcn McCabe and Itahm, the ordiuance
passed July 12th, 1880, was ammended as follows:
Be it ordained by the Burgess and Town Council
of the Borough of Towauda, and it is ordained by
the authority of the same, that the ordinance passed
July 12, 18S0, in relation to dogs running on the
streets of the Borough, be amended as follows:
That from the first day of June to the 30th day of
Bentembcr of each year it shall not be lawful for
dogs to be upon the streets within the Borough
limits, without a muzzle, either with or without its
owner; and it shall he the duty of the Pound Mas
ter to seize, or cause to be seized, all dogs so run
ning at large and impound them in a secure pound,
and unless the owner, or owners of dogs so seized
and impounded shall pay or cause to be paid to the
Pound Master the sum of one dollar for the redemp
tion of his or her dog within twenty-four hours from
the time of such seizure it shall be the duty of tlie
