Doctor BRADLEY, editor of the Wilkes-
Barre Record,, is at the Ward House. He
visits Towanda for the purpose of making
arrangements to insroduce the Record in
this section. The paper is the same size as
the Philadelphia Times. It contains all the
telegraphic news and many Pennsylvania
items not found in the Elmiru and Bingham
ton papers. In typographical appearance It
is a model of neatness, while the editorial de
partment ts conducted with great ability.
The Wilkesßarre Record, copies our notice
of Prof. ALBERT, and adds the following
graceful compliment:
Prof Albert, since his residence in this city,
ha* proved himself a conscientious' and able
teacher, and our people will learn with regret
that he intends to take his departure for oth
er fields. The residents of the district in
which he lias taught looked upon him as a
valued instructor, and their children made
rapid progress under his guidance. His
methods were thorough and lasting, and his
schoool was among the foremost in the city
in all respects. The people of Towanda are
to be congratulated upon the selection their
school directors have made.
During a short visit here !u*t week the Pro
fessor matte a very impression upon 'the
minds of all who had the pleasure of meeting
him.
The Order of the Iron Hall, meets in Iv. P.
Hall, Wednesday evening.
The call for the Republican county nomi
nating convention appears on our second
page this morning, to the exclusion of other
matter.
We are indebted to Mr. BRA/.EE, for a copy
of the Iron Hall, a new monthly paper start,
ed in Indianapolis, devoted to the interests of
the Order of the Iron Hall. Persons who de
sire to acquaint themselves with the aims and
objects of the order, should give the paper a
perusal.
I IRE —About 4 o'clock this morning a lire
broke out in the repair shop of the Barclay
Railroad Co., at the lower end of town. The
TOWANDA, PA., TUESDAY, JULY 19, ISSI.
1 alarm was sounded and the lire department
promptly responded. Through their efforts
tiie lire was confined to that building and the
round house and lumber sheds saved.
We copied from the Wilkesßarre Record
the other day an item to the effect that one of
our officers was likelv to he prosecuted for
false imprisonment, by a Wilkesßarre man.
I The affair is thus explained by a paragraph
tn the Sunday Telegram. That paper savs:
•' The statement is only partially true. <>ffi
-1 eer DIMMOCK, who was acting in the place of
Chief of Police BURNS, then absent, boarded
the Lehigh Valley train at 1 a. in., in search
of a party wanted by a Wilkesßarre Consta
ble. CIIANRLKK was pointed out to the offi
cer by the conductor as answering the diserip
! tion. Officer DIMMOCK took CHANDLER,
, who made 110 attempt to awake up his part
ner, and took him at the county jail at To
wanda. He had a perfectly comfortable room
and clean bed. DIMMOCK telegraphed to the
constable at Wilkes Barre. who arrived here
in less than four hours after the arrest was
J made. CHANDLER was released as soon as
the mistake was made known by the consta
i blc. He was not locked up in any station
| house, and could not have contracted a cold
in the thoroughly ventilated rooms of our
j modern jail. His threats to make the officer
I trouble wiil not frighten anybody out of
their senses. Of course, DIMMOCK, who is
an efficient officer and a courteous gentleman,
regretted the mistaffe. aivd made all tffifc. reoper
ation in his power. •• .r•• • '*

THE PRESIDENT'S SYMPTOMS
NOT ALARMING.
At 7 :S0 p. 111., the following bulletin
I was sent by the President's attending
I physicians to the consulting surgeons:
j Shortly after our dispatch of yesterday,
j the President received a hypodermic in
jection of one eighth of a grain of mor
phia. lie*slept well during the night.
To-day, however, lie was not quite so
comfortable as yesterday. A slight gas
tric disturbance was noted toward noon,
in consevuence of which the quantity of
nourishment was temporarily diminished.
This was followed by rather more aftcr
j noon fever than yesterday, but the diil'er
ance was not great, and it is thought to.
I be merely a temporary fluctuation.
At 11 last night, Dr. Bliss said:
" There was nothing in the President's
symptoms to-night to cause anxiety or in
dicate that lie is not ptogressingas favor
i ably as could be exspected. The Presi
! dent's pulse is now fhk He is sleeping
1 quietly."
The News Condensed.
A London dispatch announces the death
of Dean Stanley.
No trace of the Kansas City train rob-
J bers lias yet been discovered.
The people of Owego yesterday voted
tr make the river bridge lit that place
free.
News from Cleveland says the Presi
dent's mother is better, and nothing se
rious is apprehended by her physician.
The New York legislature did not elect
a successor to Mr Coukling yesterday but
members are evidently growing tired of
the contest and no doubt will end it to
day or to-morrow by the election of Lap
ham.

tion, shape or kind of frame or glass that needs
shading from the rays of the sun, or frsm the gaze
of inquisitive eyes. Thankful for the very liberal
patronage bestowed since we have received the
agency of this Imitation, we shall by a strict atten

and ask the prices for which it can be obtained, we
are prepared to contract with churches, halls, or
