T. P. PATCH has returned from a uisit to
his daughter in Corning, X. Y.
Mr. W. S. SIMPSON, is enjoying a visit
from his brother, who is here ou business
and pleasure combined.
Prof. E. T. Bt'RGAN has joined his wife in
Fottsville and will spend a portion of his va
cation at his former home in that city.
Ex-Commissioner BALDWIN and severaj
other prominent Loßsvfville gentlemen are
regittered at the Ward House this morning.
Mrs. GOODRICH has added very materially
to the comfort as well as exterior appearance
of her rooms in the Ward House, by placing
substantial, neat awnings over the windows.
EUGENE THOMPSON, of Towanda, Pa.,
contemplates opening a law office in Sayre,
Pa. lie has the reputation of being a thor
ough student and business man and of the
strictest personal integrity.— Elmira Free

Through the efforts of Senator DAVIKS,
Mrs. KELLY, of this place, whose husband
was a soldier of the war of 1812, has been
placed 011 the pension roll and will during the
remainder of her natural life receive from
the state an annuity of $123.
Prof. BIGKLOW who has been connected
with the Collegiate Institute for the past
year has resigned his situation and left for
his home in Washington county, X. Y., this
week. He has been successful and given
good satisfaction as a member of the faculty.
A letter received yesterday from Miss IRENE
MASON announced her safe arrival at Omaha
and the transfer of herself and baggage to
the train for Rawlins, whence she will take
an ambulance ride of 123 miles to the camp
where her brother, Col. .J. W. MASON, with
his family, is stationed.
EUGENE KILMER of tfortli Towanda at
tended a Good Templars'festival in Ulster
Tuesday evening, and 011 his way home in
fording Sugar Creek upset his buggy and
spilled himself into the water. A cold bath is
not a bad thing this warm weather, but one
does'nt like to have his Sunday suit spoiled
We congratulate our young friend ROBERT
WILLIAMS. He has been nominated by Hon.
U. C. JADWIN, Member of Congress for this
District, a Cadet to West Point, llis prelim
inary examination will taue place in Septem
ber. The young man is a son of our towns
man, 11. X. WILLIAMS, Esq., and is u con
spicuously bright boy, and is possessed of
just tbe right mettle for a good soldier. Mr.
JADWIN has honored himself by the selection.
ALFRED BLACKWELL, of Burilngton, one
of the most active and worthy young republi
cans in the county, announces himself a can
didate for the office of Register and Recorder,
subject to the decision of the Republican
county convention. In addition to being in
everyway qualified for the office, Mr. BLACIC
WELL belongs to a large and highly respecta
ble family whose republicanism has never
been questioned and who have never been
liouered with office.

The L. V. pay car was here Tuesday and
as a consequence business, especially at the
grocery stores, was lively in town yesterday.
At last accounts all efforts to recover the
body of the little ASPINWALL boy who was
drowned in Hastings, Minn., some days since,
had proved unavailing.

Owing to the fact tliat a small admission
fee will be charged at the Baptist festival,
the committee having charge of the arrange
ments, say a reduetiou will be made in the
priee of refreshments.
The members of Oscalnwa Grange will
hold a strawberry and ice cream festival at
Grange Hall on Friday evening. All who
are acquained with the people of Noreh Tow
aiula know that it will be an enjoyable affair.
The proccds are to be appropriated towards
the purchase of books for a public library.

Episcopal church and State st., a pair of gold
spectacles in a case. A suitable reward will
be paid for their return to Mrs. James Mac
fariane.
LOST.—On Sunday the 12th, supposed in
the Episcopal church, or between it and the
residence of Mr. E. T. Fox, a pair of gold
spectacles. By leaving the same with Wal
ter G. Tracy the tinder will be suitably re

It is said that John W. Welsh, one of
the Star Route contractors, has supplied
the government with much damaging ev
idence against the ring.
At the General Synod of the Lutheran
Church, in session at Altoona, Pa.,it was
resolved to establish an institution for
exclusive German Theological eduction.
The arrivals in New York of emigrants
for the first ten days in June have out
numbered those during the same time in
May, when more arrived thau in an sim
ilar period.
Locusts are reappearing through large
portions of the West ancl South, iu ac
cordance with the prediction of the Unit
ed States Entomological Commission six
months ago.
DISSOLUTION NOTICE. — The co
partnership heretofore existing between the
undersigned, under the firm name of Hill &
Co., is this day dissolved by mutual consent. The
business will be continued by N. T. llicks, to whom
all money due the firm must be paid, and all ac
