He has had a several months' siege with the rheumatism. R. A. MERCUR Esq., and his good wife were richly blessed yesterday afternoon iu the arrival in their happy home of a girl ba by. We are pleased to learn that N. F. MARSH, conductor on the local freight between this place and Waverlyis recovering from a severe illness. F. M. NICHOLS, a prominent member of the Luzerne county bar was registered at the Elwell House last evening. He formerly re sided in this county and read law here. JOHN S. HINMAN has bought the tobacco and cigar store in Mercur block of W. REED SMALLEY, will reuovate and re-stock it aud open for business about the first of July. 11. W. PATRICK, Esq., fell while getting out of his buggy at the L. V. station Friday morning and sustained an injury which has confined him to bis beu ever since. He was feeling better last evening and we hope may soon be around again. CHAS. D. CASH and GEO. V. KENDALL, two good machinists, left for Streator, Illi nois, this morning. While we regret to lose these excellent citizens, we are pleased to learn that they have secured situations iu a large establishment there at remunerative wages. The little steamboat "Welles," of Athens, arrived at this port yesterday morning. The passengers were C. 11. KELLOGG, owner and Captain, W. R. URBSTEK, Judge H.C. BAIRD and E. W. KELLOGG. Ex-sheriff SPALDING joined the party on the return trip in the af ternoon. We had the pleasure of a ride behind CHAS. BUFFINGTON'S young and spirited pony, POLLY, yesterday. Uuder the tutorship of Prof. GLEASON, POLLY can now be driven without reins. Mr. BUFFINGTON expects to dispose of bis pony to the next circus that comes along, at an enormous price. Mr. ROGER HAMPSON, of Bernice, Mine Inspector, made call at our office to-day. We are much pleased with him, and we have rea son to believe the mines of this district will be carefully looked after. The members of Oscaluwa Grange will hold a strawberry and ice cream festival at Grange Hall on Friday evening. All who are acquained with the people of Noreh Tow auda know that it will be an enjoyable affair. The proceds are to be appropriated towards the purchase of books for a public library. Messrs. GARRIIIAN and DODGE, the two nail-mil) men referred to in yesterday's RE VIEW, complain that injustice was done them in the notice. They say they were not dis charged. but, with three other puddlers, quit work 011 account of what they considered un fair treatment; they ditl not flourish clubs, neither were they drunk when taken before the justice. They will have a hearing this morning. The new school board met for organization Monday evening. The following named gen tlemen were elected officers for the current year: President— C. D. PASSAGE. It is rumored in Washington that the President has received a telegram from General Miles saying that the court mar tial recently held in New York has sus tained the charges against Whittaker.
