If the Philadelphia Times gets anything
near the truth there is need of reform in
our legislative offices. It gives the
names of a dozen or more employes from
that city who were carried 011 the pay
rolls at Harrisburg during the late ses
sion, without performing any service;
most of them were engaged io their nsu
al occupations at home.
By referriug to the call of Chairman
Angle, in tnis paper it will be seen that
the Republican County Committee are
called to meet on the 21th instant. In
these days of political excitement and
turmoil it becomes those who feel an in
terest in the party to well consider their
action. We hope the members of the
Committee will second the efforts of
their chairman to so direct the prelimi
naries of the coming campaign that an
unobjectionable ticket may be preseuted
and triumphantly elected. Great care
should be taken to prevent unworthy
men from being foisted upon the party.
Bossistu must be squelched. Unless it is
foiled victory is uncertain.
There is a story of no very ancient
date, of a servant girl who came to see
her spiritual adviser, and informed him
that she considered herself converted.
Ttie minister asked her by what signs she
was made aware of the inward change
she spoke of. She replied that she now
swept out all the corners of the rooms
intrusted to her care. On being further
questioned as to the performance of her
daily duties.it soon became apparent that
there was still great room for improve
ment in matters of cleanliness; so she
was told to go home, to be still more
conscientious, and to return at some no
distant period, when she could report
further progress in the reformation just
begun, and then she might be admitted
to a full participation of church privil
eges.
