At a meeting of the American Mission
ary Society in Chicago yesterday, the
Treasurer stated that the receipts for the
past fifty-Are years were $9,031,000, of
which New York and New England gave
over seven millions.
The Western Union Telegraph Compa
ny has declared a quarterly dividend of 1|
per ceut., leaving a surplus of $4GG,389,
compared with a surplus of $51,231 08
the previous quarter. The net revenue of
the present quarter is $1,83G,391.
Twelve hundred Sioux, recently taken
from Fort Buford by boats to Standing
Rock Agency, behaved abusively to the
soldiers, passengers and deck hands, aud
nearly had a fight with two thousand
Grosvcntres, who taunted them when the
boats touched at Berthold.
It is stated that several National banks
have been found delinquent in large sums
for taxes upon certain deposits and the
matter will be fully investigated. The
affairs of one Chicago bank look serious.
A Montreal bank is also delinquent and
its liability will be looked into.
The Chief of the Bureau of Statistics
is preparing a statement regarding the
conditions affecting competition between
the Mississippi river and East and West
Trunk railroad lines for the transporta
tion of the surplus products of the West
ern aud Northwestern States to the sea
board.
The members of the Star Route Ring
have sent letters to many promiuent men
in different parts of the country who rec
ommended the establisment of the Star
Routes, that they would almost certainly
be indicted. The object of this false in
formation was to work upon the Presi
dent, through the agency of those indi
viduals whom the contractors sought
to alarm. The attempt has proven an
utter failure.
