A BIG BLANK BOOK.— One of the largest
blank books we have ever seen has just been
made for the county. It is a register for the
poor-house. The form was prepared byWM.
LEWIS, clerk, and when the blanks are filled
will form a complete history of the inmates
of that institution. The volume contains five
hundred leaves, 16x21 inches in size, sewed
on silk bands with the best silk thread. The
workmanship reflects great credit upon A.
BEVERLY SMITH & Co.,the manufacturers—
a better job could not have been turned out
from any city bindery.
SON AGAINST MOTHER.—JOHN 3IARSDEN ;
a retired manufacturer, who had accumulated
an estate worth about $70,000, died in June,
1874, while on a visit to his son, WILLIAM C.
MARSDEN, who lived at Towanda. The de
ceased lived at No. 1513 North Second street,
in this city, and left a will dated May 29,1866,
in which he gave to his sou WILLIAM two
farms in Sullivau county and to his widow,
SOPHIA, all the rest of his estate for life. On
the death of Mrs. 31ARSDEN, the estate was
to be equally divided, one-half of which was
to go to HANNAH, the descendent's daughter,
and the other half to go to the son WILLIAM,
who was also appointed executor of the will.
Some six months after 3lr. 31ARSDEN died, a
grandson, who lived at the Second street res
idence of deceased, while turning over the
leaves of a Bible discovered written on a
piece of tissue paper a will, May 6,1874, and
in this document the bequest of the Sullivan
county farms to the son WILLIAM was re
tained, but all the rest of the estate was given
absolutely to the deceased's widow, who was
appointed executrix. It was to establish this
latter paper that hi ought the parties into
Court before Judge BIDDLE yesterday, with
3lrs. SOPHIA 3IARSDEN as plaintiff and WIL
LIAM C. 3IAKSDEN, the son, as defendant, the
latter contending that the paper is not the
last will of his father. The case will be re
sumed this morning.— Phila. Press.
