Farmers hereabouts say the outlook for a

ERYSIPELAS.—This terrible disease has
been almost an epidemic in Bradford county
for six or eight months past. Many people
will he glad to learn of a good preventative.
Dogwood buds or blossoms steeped in water
and the latter drank freely, when taken in
time will prevent attacks of the dreaded ery
sipelas. Now, at once, is the time to secure
a supply of the dogwood blows. Pick the
whole bud, pinching off the stem, dry them
and keep for use. A very small handful
steeped in water and drank when cold when
one feels badly, has caught cold and fears an
attack, will prove efficacious. It makes a
hitter driuk, but never mind that. W.
BATHELLF.R & DORIS' GREAT INTER
OCEAN SHOW. —The advent of this monster
organization is being heralded far and near,
an army of advertisers now being engaged in
this section in distributing and posting their
beautiful pictorial paper, containing the an
nouncements, etc., from which it will be seen
that they will exhibit at this place on Tues
day, May 31st.
Circuses, like everything else, in order to
merit patronage, should keep pace with the
rapid strides of civilization, and from the
splendid reputation which precedes the
Batcheller & Doris Show, we must coneluue
that they have taken a position in the front
rank of amusement organizations. In fact,
the press throughout the country pronounce
it the best exhibition now traveling.
It has the finest horses, the most gorgeous
chariots, tableaux cars, cages, dens and
wagous, which were all newly constructed
during the past winter, its paraphernalia is
all new, novel, and of the latest designs, en
abling them to make a street display surpass
ing any thing ever witnessed. They have no
old worn out shop property worked over.
The great aim of the managers has been to
present something new and attractive, to
take the place of the old time circus; and that
they have succeeded in so doing is evident
from the unanimous verdict of praise receiv
ed from the public press.
While the Menagerie is very extensive and
containing rare Zoological specimens to be
seen in no other show, among which is the
Egyptian Bovalapus, a sea monster captured
in the Mediterranean, and the only one ever
in captivity.
They have added a number of exclusive
features, which are absolute novelties, such
as Zazel, the human cannon ball, shot from a
huge mortar 75 feet into mid-air. An act
without parallel. This wonderful young ladr
also walks a slender cob-web wire stretched
across the top of the canvas, actually rum •
dances and rides a bicycle on this slender
thread, positively the most thrilling perform
ance ever witnessed.
Tbe lad'es of Towanda and vicinity, who
are interested in the decorating of the sol
dier's graves next Monday, are requested to
send what flowers thev can spare to the
Grand Jury room, Monday morning, May 30.

CREDIT TO WHOM CREDIT IS DUE.—A
notice having appeared in the last Argus to
the effect that the plumbing at the poor house
was done by a Mr. TATE. Commissioner
HURST makes a correction in the following
card:
The plumbing at poor house was done un
der the direction of Edward Williams, of
Towanda, and those employed by him, and is
entirely satisfactory so far.
J. W. IIURST, Commissioner.
If the plumbing at the poor house reflects
credit upon any one, Mr. WILLIAMS, who had
the contract, is entitled to it, and it is hardly
fair in our cotemporary to cheat him out of it

following flattering letter on Saturday from
a delighted customer:
CAMDEN. N. Y., May 11th, 1881.
Mr. GEO. 11. WOOD :
My Dear Sir —The picture arrived this
morning, and was paid for and taken in less
than two seconds after it was opened. It is
without doubt the finest picture of any kind
in town; in fact, the finest I ever saw "at any
price.
I cannot compliment you sufficiently for
your talent, ai d assure vou that you wilt
never regret the labor bestowed on this piece
of work; it will be productive of other simi
lar work from this section and to no small
amount. I have no doubt that by putting it
on exhibition in window I could secure you
hundreds of dollars worth of work. I have
compared it with former one of same subject
made by you at sls I think, and this is very
much finer.
My wife, who is a daughter of the subject,
is perfectly carried away; you may consider
her under obligations to you. Again thank
ing you, I remain, Tours, &c.
