Com vs Geo Ameigh and Mathew Fincher. Indicted at September term for conspiracy to defraud. Settled. The ease of Com vs. Benjamin Williams, charged with manslaughter, is 011 trial. He is charged with causing the death of a young man, his cousin, sometime last summer, in a quarrel growing out of some difficulty about a young lid v. The prisoner is defended by Senator Davis, Col. Overton, ,J. F. Sander son and L. M. Hail. D'A. Overton, B. M. Peek, and ex-District Attorney McPhctsou are for the prosecution. The Grand Jurors were discharged in the afternoon. Germania Band will give an open aireon eert in the Park to-morrow evening. The regular meeting of Franklin Engine Co. No. 1, occurs to-morrow evening. A full attendance is requested. Mrs. ALPIIARETTA BIXBY committed sui cide near Sylvania yesterday, by shooting herself through the heart with a pistol. No cause is assigned for the act. She leaves sev eral children. The funeral of the late JOHN WARD of Towanda township, takes place at 10 o'ciosk this morning instead of afternoon as stated yesterday. The remains will be taken to Springfield township for interment. FRANK A. WIIITTAKER, junior of Hit Mil ville (N. J.) Ilerahl, has been obliged to leave Millville, 011 account of failing health, and has taken a situation 011 a Philadelphia paper. FRANK'S many Towanda friends wish him speedy and permanent recovery. The entertainment in the Universalist Church Tuesday evening was a profitable as well as pleasaut affair. The performance of the " broom brigade" which was a kind of drill in the manual of arms, awakened so much interest that at its conclusion the brooms were sold at auction—Mr. E. T. NO BLE officiating as auctioneer—and brought from 85 cents t $4 each aggregating s2l 00. Mastei EDWARD STROUD, who has already developed much mechanical ingenuity recent ly constructed and put in operation a narrow gauge railway on the ground about his par ents residence. A car was used upon it for the conveyance of both passengers and freight which was drawn to the top of the grade by movable power whence it descend ed by gravity. The ride was a pleasant one and afforded much gratification to those who t iok it. Accidents however (though none of them serious) being of daily occurence, the road was finally abandoned. At a meeting of Payne's followers at Wichita, Kan., resolutions were adopted urging that Payne renew his effort to effect a lodgement in the Indian Terri tory. In New York, a son of Mosher, the ab ductor of Charley Ross, was captured in ?m attempted burglary, Monday night. When cornered he threatened to kill the officer with his revolver.
