Green county farmers report an unfa vorable outlook for the grain crop in that neighborhood. The House at Ilarrisburg has refused to consider at the present time the Sen ate resolution providing for an adjourn ment on May 19, which had been amend ed by the Committee so as to make the date May 26. It is estimated that over eight millions of dollars of hard cash will be brought in to this country by immigrants during the present Summer. Add to this the in creased, tax-paying wealth these immi grants will produce by their industry and frugality and some idea may be formod of Europe's loss aud our gain. The mercury is getting up among the nineties in the Senate and it is reported as having a wilting effect on some of the Senators, With the "irrefragable" indi cations of a break up in the Solid South however, it is not likely to soon wilt the Democratic minority. Each day makes the last ditch look broader and deeper to the Democrats. Secretary Blaine will soon open cor respondence with the British govern ment with a view of securing Michael Boy ton's release, if possible, from the English prison in Ireland. It is said that the evidence is conclusive in favor ofßoyton, and there is no doubt but what Secretary Blaine will be able to se cure his release. The Democrat who claims to have been elected to Congress last Fall from the Eighth South Carolina district was con victed of murder in 1860, had his death sentenca commuted to imprisonment for life, and when the war broke out was commissioned and sent into the field, but was not pardoned, the Governor fearing that he would resign and leave the ser vice unless the alternative of life impris onment was placed before him. lie has not been pardoned yet.— Springjleld Un ion. Just in proportion as the South coun tenances and justifies wrong and their at tempts to conceal it will evil result from it. Let us have absolutely fair elections, and if bad men are elected to ofllce let us exhaust legal remedies; if they fail then we will be excused by civilization if we put out thieves by force. But let there be no deception about it. Let the whole world know that it is not on account of Republicanism or Democracy or Grcen backism, but on account ofscoundrelism. Vicksburg Herald. It has been generally assumed that Abraham Lincoln was not classic in his scholarship, but an incident which has recently come to light shows that lie was extremely classic in some of his modes of doing things. Jove the king of the gods was accustomed when two heroes were fighting to weigh their fates in scales and the hero whose end of the scale kick ed the beam was the one who was to kick the bucket. Mr. Lincoln, so it is report ed, after being bored by delegation after delegation and petition after petition in favor of various applicants for office, fi nally said : "This thing has got to end somehow. Bring a pair of scales, and put in all the petitions and letters in fa vor of one man and see how much they weigh, and then weigh the other fellow's pile." It was found tiiat one bundle was three fourths of a pound heavier than the other. "Make out an appointment at once," said Lincoln, "for the man who has the heviest papers," and it was done.
