A Remarkable Case of Childbirth:
The Hazletou Sentinel of Saturday is
responsible for the following: The resi
dents of South Wyoming street were
Somewhat startled yesterday afternoon
by the announcement that Mrs. Daniel
Thomas, a resident of Hollywood, who
with her husband came to town to do
some shopping, had given birth to four
Children. On investigation the follow
ing facts in this remarkable case were
gleaned by the reporter of the Sentinel:
Mrs. Thomas is the mother of Ave chil
dren, all of which were born at regular
intervals, singly, and her general health
has always been considered good. Yes
terday she complained to her husband af
ter their arrival in towu, stating that she
was unwell, but at the same time gave no
Riga or symptom that any thing serious
was about to happen, but her husband,
who is thoughtful and considerate, con
cluded that when they got through shop
ping he would arrange to have a convey
ance to take them home. With other
purchases, Mrs. Thomas went to the
store of John B. Brown, on South Wyo
ming street, and while standing at the
couuter she was taken ill instantly, and
before the women who came to her aid,
could remove her up stairs, she gave
birth to twius, and after the arrival of
Drs. Cole, Casselberry and Deitz, who
were hastily summoned to attend, she
gave birth to two other children. This
Is the first case of quadruple birth in
Hazleton we have been called upou to
mote. All were still born, and at last ac
counts Mrs. Thomas was in a fair way of
recovery, and is being tenderly eared for
by her friends and physicians.
These figures will illustrate the care
with which the U. S. Treasury is guard
ed: There were rejected, branded and re
turned to the owners during the fiscal
year $3,610 in counterfeit United States
cotes, $3,842 in counterfeit national
bank notes, $770 10 in counterfeit frac
tional currency. Of the counterfeit bank
looses rejected $1,200 were in notes of the
denomination of SIOO purporting to be of
the issue of the following national banks :
First Naaional Bank of Boston, $300;
National Revere Bank of Boston, $300;
Central National Bank of New York,sloo;
and Pittsburg National Bank of Com
merce of Pittsburg, SSOO. These coun
terfeits are all printed from the same
original plate, and are by far the most
difficult of detection of any which ha#e
yet' appeared. Fortunately the person by
whopa the plate was engraved has been
recently arrested, and it is hoped tnat
the further printing or putting in circu
lation of counterfeits printed from it will
he prevented. There were also rejected
$7,870 25 in stolen, pieced and fragment
ary national bank notes. There was de
ducted on account of mutilations from
the face value of United States notes re
deemed during thp fiscal year, $10,157;
Trom fractional currency, $330 73; and
fram notes of failed, liquidating and re
ducing banks, $80; making the total de
ductions to the close of the fiscal year
$1197, 363 76 on notes of the face value of
$2,229,368,462 17 redeemed.
The Treasury has increased the bullion
fund at the New York assay office by 815,-
000,000 in gold coin, to pay for the for
eign gold bullion and coin. There is now
at the New York assay office and Phila
delphia mint nearly §90,000,000 in gold
bullion. This is enough to keep the Phil
adelphia niint constantly employed for
fifteen months. It is estimated that the
importation of foreign gold for the cur
rent year will reach §100,000,000. The do
mestic product will greatly add to the
amount of gold in the United States.
DISSOLUTI ON. —The partnership
heretofore existing between Rami. Woodford
and Jno. VanDorn under the firm name of
Woodford & VanDorn, is this day dissolved by mu
tual consent.
The books and papers of the late firm are left in
the hands of Saml. Woodford, to whom all debts
duo the firm jnußt be paid and by whom all debts
owing by the firm will he settled.
