Of the life of "Florence Percy," the re puted author of "Rock Me to Sleep Moth er," a correspondent of the Cincinnati Commercial gives the following outline: " 'Florence Percy,' or Miss Chase, had a romantic life, and a checkered one. She lives with her third husband, an intelli gent man, at present in Europe, tempo rarily. Her first husband was Marshall Taylor, who fell in love with her through her poems, corresponded, became engag ed,and came from California to Wash ington to marry her She never had seen hira until the day she met him at the train, when the license was immediately procured and the ceremony performed at hur father's house. After a few years the marriage contract without any pre vious acquaintance proved unhappy. They separated, she retaining her little girl, christened with her mother's non deplume, Florence Percy. Afterwards, while traveling abroad, she married an artist, Paul Acres, to whom she was pas sionately devoted, and whose death, after a short period of matrimonial happiness, was the severest blow of her life, follow ed as it was by the loss of a baby girl of his. Then passed years of loneliness, when a third marriage, of respect on her part but of love on the part of the hus band, gave her a pleasant home and kind attention, and resulted in the birth of a third daughter, a child now fifteen years of age, phenomenally beautiful and gift ed." Mr. Chase, the father of Florence Percy, lives in Washington, near the Na vy Yard. He is a robust, fine looking man, of poetic tastes, but is totally blind. Here is a case for doctors of physiology and psychology. Three weeks ago W. S. Cue, of South Livonia, struck his axe in to his left foot, cutting a gash several unches long between the second and third toes, exposing but not severing the cords of both toes. His father's brother, L. M. Coe, dressed the wound and bound up the foot. The patient was immediately re lieved from all pain, but the uncle at once felt a smarting in the same spot on his own foot, On removing his boot and fitocking, a ridge was found the exact length and location of the cut on his nephew's foot, resembling the welt left on the flesh after a sharp blow with a Strange as it may seem, it is strictly true that he still feels the sensa tion of a healing wound, and has at times land to walk with a cane, and the red spot is yet visible ou his foot, while the man who was cut has suffered no pain and is nearly well. A dispatch from Dakota says Yankton can furnish shelter for about 1,000, and is making great efforts to supply clothing, fuel and provisions from its limited store. As soon as the gorge breaks, boats can be sent below for supplies. All the rail iX)ads Northwest are snowed in. The damage to steamboat property is SGO,- 000, including two boats sunk. Eight steamers are laying high upon the ice and tiar inland. The losses to property in general are very great. The season of floods has only begun, as the entire Mis aouri slope is buried in snow. A prominent citizen of Denver, just re turned from the Uncompahge Agency, tfays that all the indications point to an outbreak at an early day. The settlers have their cabins loopholed and sleep on their arms, anticipating trouble. There are aeventy families in the Uncompahge country and only one hundred soldiers at the cantonment. The Utes can muster •even hundred warriors. The settlers have petitioned the Governor for pro action. At Brooklyn in the suit of Richard Huntly against Charles Goddard and Daniel Fessenden, to recover $71,000 for counsel fee*, a verdict was rendered for plaintiff, lluntly recovered a judgment for the plaintiffs of $505,000 against Ezra Cornell, the founder of Cornel) Univcrsi ty.
