Now grind up your fish poles as suckers begin to bi'c. L. T. GAMBLE of Wilmot township has five ewes which produced twelve lambs this Spring. . The Illustrated Christian Weekly of April 2d contains a fine likeness of GEORGE EBKHS* the author aud Egyptologist, with an inter esting sketch of his life by Mrs. ANNIE ll* MERCUR of this place. . M. C. Wells, the White Sewing Machine agent has removed bis office from the Music store to Wood & C'o.'s Gallery, third story Patton's block. Honey, which is produced in considerable quantities in these parts and sold last fall at reduced rates, being as low as 6 cents per pound in some localities, will likely be in good demand, as the severity of the past win ter lias destroyed hundreds of skips of bees. In winter bees need protection as well as stock, and lie who neglects to put the hives in warm quarters, will wake up in the spring to find that the little "busy bee," stinger and all, lias ceased to buzz, make honey and worry meddlesome boys with its business end. A FINE HORSE. —The celebrated stallion, so widely and favorable known, "George Henry Patchom," owned by ROUT. ARNOLD of this place, is looking very fine this Spring and presents a splendid appearance on the road. He deserves and will receive the pat ronage of persons desiring to raise large, fine and first-class horses. His size is great, so that if you fail to get stock of great speed you will surely get valuable horses for service. Our best horsemen admit that lie shows a 2:30 clip. The especial attention of farmers and horsemen is called to this horse. M. 11. CASE. Esq., who formerly resided in Canton and was a conspicuous member of the bar of this county, removed to Topeka fifteen years ago, in the early history of Kansas, and has "grown up with the country." His line legal attainments together with many noble traits of head and heart, have made him very popular in the capital of Kansas, and for a number of years past lie has been Mayor of the city. His third term expired recently, and the event was made the occasion of a social gathering of more than ordinary inter est, which is described at some length in the Daily Commonwealth. As Mr. CASE and his good wife have many warm friends in this county, we copy the article: The following unique invitation was sent to the present and former city officers, a few days ago: COUNCIL CHAMBER, \ CITY OF TOPKKA, March 30, 1831. \ To You anil each of you are hereby commanded to he and appear at a special meeting to he held at my residence, No. 3u7 Van Bureu •treet, at eight o'clock p. in , April 2d, A. 1). 1881, and have you then and there your lawful wile or sweetheart. Most nil of those gentlemen who have spent their time for the good of the city, and drawn a salary as regularly as the exigencies would al'ow, and a few non-office holders, the entire company numbering seventy-five souls, were present, and partook of tin: liberal hospitality afforded by the Mayor and his estimable wife. The gentlemen did not fail to bear in mind the mandatory injunction of the invitation, but brought with them their "lawful wife or sweetheart." Just before the collation was served, which was an elegant atlair, the Mayor was present ed by the city officers and the police force with a beautiful changeable reclining chair, wliioh cost the donors S6O. The presentation speech was made by Judge D. A. Harvey, City Attorney and Probate Judge of the coun ty, and was responded to by bis Honor, the Mayor, in the most feeling manner. Mrs. Case was presented with an elegant silver server, with her name engraved thereon. No occasion could have been pleasanier than this, the farewell party of Mayor Case. At his home, he is just as genial as he is to friends whom he talks with on the street. Affable and humorous, kind and courteous,he has hosts of friends who will say with us, that in anything and everything that he may undertake he has the best wishes of all of us. The party continued until a late hour, aud when the mantel clock announced that the Sabbath day had come the guests departed, reluctant to leave so hospitable a home. The Towanda Musical Society will not meet on the day appointed, but on Wednesday, April 13, at the residence of Mr. WILLIAM KKKLKK. Scale, B. major.
