CALKINS, who died a few days ago and whose maiden name was DARTT, was born in Ver mont, but while a child moved with her par ents to Dartt Settlement, Tioga Co., i'a. where she resided until her marriage with Mr. MITCHELL in 1829. They then moved to what is now Mitchell Creek, where they re sided until 1872, when they moved to Tioga. Her husband died at the latter place on the 23d of February, just three years and a few hours before her own death, and her funeral took place on the same day of the month as her husband's, Feb. 26th. From her early life she was a leading member of the Baptist church and her good works were many, liviug as they do in the memory of all with whom she came iti contact and in the lines of her large family who in the death of one so affec tionate and strong loe their best earthly friend. Her children are Mrs. F. J. CALKINS, of Towanda, Mrs. J. W. GUERNSEY, of Corning, Mrs. N. E. CALKINS, of Mainsburg, Mrs. A. 11. WESTBKOOK, of Tioga, C'apt. B. B. MITCHELL, of Troy, Mrs. 8. E. CORBIN, of Corning, Mrs. CIIAS. BOYDKN, of Grand Haven, Mich., Mrs. ANNA B. DHMOKKST, of Corning, all living and all present in her last illness. One son EDSALL, was killed in battle in front of Petersburg, Va. Like the good woinau of Scripture "Iler children rise up and eall her blessed." Council Proceedings. The regular monthly session of the council was held March 7th, 1881. Present, W. H. Jones, Burgess,and the following councilmen: Alger, Holcomb, Iveeler, McCabe, Rahm. Councilman Holcomb moved that minutes of the last meeting he approved as published by the Secretary. Adopted. Chief Engineer Porter reported the sale of a quantity of old hose to the borough author ities of Athens, for twenty-five dollars. On motion of Mr. Holcomb the sale was approved, and the Chief Engineer authorized to send a receipted bill to the burgess of Athens for said hose. MissWalborn, by her attorney Gen.Madill, asked for damages resulting from a fall on the sidewalk west of the Ward House, on the 3d day of January last. On motion the claim was referred to a com mittee to be appointed by the Burgess. Couu cilmen Alger, Holcomb and Rahm appointed said committee. The committee to whom was referred the claim of Mrs. Davenport for damages, was not ready to report and further time was granted. On rno.ion of Councilman McCabe the Treasurer was authorized to turn over the balance of the firemen's badges in his posses sion to the Chief Engineer, C. It. l'orter. Bills amounting to $209 95 were approved and ordered paid, as follows: Gas bill for February, SS6 40 Police, " TO 00 Fire Depart. " 17 50 Street labor, " l(i 25 Elections, " 8 80 Lock-up, (coaly, 5 00 Total, $209 95 No report from Police Department.
