HELP YOURSELF.—Young men depend al together too much on somebody else to get a life in the world. They don't rely enough on themselves. The day of "self-made men" appears to be passing. The young men of the present age fawn around politicians, doing their dirty work and helping along disreputa ble schemes, In hope to be appointed to some position where the work is light and the pay heavy. This is no way to succeed, You can not build up a reputation or a fortune on the expense of others. You must be the architect of your own fortunes. Don't ask anybody else to help you get an education or anything else. Ten thousand men are now serving their day and generation with usefulness and honor, who never asked anybody to grind an axe for them. Young man, paddle your own canoe, and ten to one you will reach the win ning stake ahead of auy competitor who re lied upon rich relatives or political friends to help him along. ANOTHUR ROBBERY NEAR ATHKNS.— -Last night the residence of Mrs. Joseph M'Kin ney, an aged widow lady living two miles south-cast of here, was entered by two mask ed men who presented pistols to the heads of ' a grand child, Miss Mary Wheaton, and Mr. William Mullory, who lived with them, and demanded money. Mallory grappled with his assailant and would have succeeded in se curing him if the other had not interfered. — The girl ran for help hut was pursued and dragged back to the house. The struggle continued for u time, but the girl and Mal lory were overpowered, both having made a desperate resistance and received severe inju ries; Mallory's being of a serious nature about the head. The thieves escaped with about S3OO in money of the old lady's, and a watch worth S4O, belonging to Mallory. Judge Lynch would be too kind a magis trate to dispose of such rascals; he should be an Indian, and the punishment death by tor ture. WILL. Athens, Feb. 2G. EDH. REVIEW —I notice by an advartise ment in your paper that my late partner, G. S. Ackley gives notice to the public that he "will pay no more of Frank liosenfield's debts." The publication was the first inti rmition I Lad that lie bad been asked to pay any of my debts, t bee to inform the public that I have ahundant means to liquidate all claims against me, and if I ewe any man will pay him on presentation of the bill. More ove, I hereby publicly offer Mr. Ackley a preminm of one hundred per cent, on any or all debts of mine he has paid. I am at a loss to understand what could have induced Mr. Ackley to attempt to stigmatize my character by such base insinuations, and in refutation I appeal to my record and life in Towanda. In conclusion, I respectfully in form Mr. Ackley that if he will look after his own debts I will attend to mine. lam about to. leave Towanda and give this timely notice of the fact, to the end that if I have any unpaid accounts they may be presented at once. t FRANK KOSKMPIELD.
