Wysox, for the past few days.
S. W. POMEROY, senior member of the sub
stantial hanking house of POMEROY Bros.,
Troy, was in town yesterday.
Mr. and Mrs. JAMES MACFARLANK aban
doned their southern trip, and after spending
a week in New York, have returned.
JOHN NOBLE and JOHN FKLTON, both em
ployes of the Reporter office, are sick.
Rev. J. IT. TORRENCE, Agent Pennsylva
nia liihle Society, is in town this morning and
will endeavor to re-organize the county So
ciety, which lias been dormant for many
years.
Mrs. BEN WAKXMAN has been visiting her
many friends in Towanda the past few days.
Lawyers STRKKTKR and HALL returned
rroin Pittsburg yesterday.

ga yesterday )o attend the funeral of Mrs. C.'s
mother.
Hon. WM. D. BOSTWICK, president of the
Ithaca Organ Co., was in town yesterday.
WEATHER INDICATIONS FOR TO-DAY.—
Warmer and clear.
The Elmira Sunday 'Republican will be for
sale on the streets in this place to-morrow
morning.
The Ithaca Organ Co. have given J. A.
MAXVILLE the General Agency for the state
of Pennsylvania, for the sale of their organs.

The line of division of Wraiusing township
into two election precincts has been lately
run. It is not a division of the township, us

The prisoner who was convicted at the
present term of court of stealing an overcoat
from M. E. ROSKNFIELD'S store, and sen
tenced to fifteen months in the penitentiary,

The closing Mite Society of the Episcopal
Church for the present season was held at
M. C. MERGER'S last evening. In addition to
proving a very pleasant occasion socially to
the large number present, it was unexpected
ly successful financially, the " mites" aggre
gating over $-14.
The mutual aid societies—of which there
are some fifty in the State—must have agents
operating in this county, as we hear of two
cases —old men —in the vicinity of Wyalusing,
each of whom is insured for $30,000; the most
of this amount in favor of other parties. For
outside parties to take out heavy policies on
aged and infirm persons seems a questionable
act, and if practiced must result in demoraliz-1
ing the mush-roon companies now raging.
I
