interest at the Baptist church. His sermons
are practical as well as scriptural. lie will

Mrs. WILLIAM SIIOKKS. of Wysox town,
ship, died on Tuesday last and was buried
yesterday afternoon. Deceased was a sister
of Mrs. T. it. JORDAN, of the Ward House.
Several of her sons reside in town.
At a meeting of the Vestry of Christ church

Mr. and Mrs. S. MKANS. have been visit
ing friends here and at Havre. They started
on their homeward journey for Philadelphia
last evening.
It will be gratifying to the people of the
county to learn that Hon. G. W. KIXXKY'S
symptoms are more encouraging and his
physician hopes to have him around again
soon.
IIKXKY KOCKWKI.L, who lias been engaged
in business in western New York for some
months past, if* home again and will remain
in Towanda.
Col. .Jorc llourox, was in town on Tues
day, not to participate in tins democratic
meeting, for the Colonel is, as of youre u
stalwart, repu'diean. lie was merelv a
"looker on in Venice," and his visit, was
greatly enjoyed hy his many friends, from
different portions of the county.

FRANK 31. HULL, who has been policeman
at-Troy, has resigned and L. P. DKAKK lias
been appointed m his stead.
Captain MANVII.I.K, is adding greatly to the
appearance of his residence by putting down
a substantial stone walk on Third and State
streets. The stone, which are of excellent
quality, are quarried on the Captains lann in
North Towanda.

Some one here lias replied through the last
Spirit of the Times to the inuendoes in re

is the letter, and it was evidently written by
one who knows whereof he affirms :

was sold by Mr. Mallorv, as reported, to
Messrs. Odel, one ot whom came here lirst,
a perfect stranger to Mr. Mallorv, to see the
horse, and alter some negotiation and eoires

sio.otio. The last time the lior-e was driven
on the Towamla hat.-mile trael—which is a
trilit; over—be made the lirst mile in 2the
Iliird half-mile not taken correctly, but the

The turns at each end IK ing short, lie was
never permitted to goat mil s|*td around
them. Whether - Little Bradford" is ignor
ant. or why he misrepresents, or who lie is,
is not known; hu in this country, as in most,
others, there an- men who have horses just fast
enough to be beaten by horses not considered
very fast, who think that no horse can be fast
owned or raised bv anv one else, and he is
not correct as to the history of the mare. The
Messrs. Odel write that the Imrse died of
pneumonia, which, no doubt, is true.
