About <120,000 worth was shipped' from the -Tioga valley station recently, and there is still some un sold. Messrs. Wells add -Allen, the purchas ers, speak in high terms of the q'uality of the tobacco raised in this vicinity, and the prlcce received are considerably in advance of those paid at Big Flats, Chemung and adjoining locaities. The attention o( our farmers will be largely turned in this direction the com ing season, as it has been practically demon strated that tobacco is the most profitable crop that cuu be raised here.— Mansfield, A ti ter User. Quite ari interesting ease from Smithficld was argued before Judge MCCOIXOM last week. At the last township election there were three school directors to be chosen, two for a full term and one to fill a vacancy. Five candidates were voted for, and the elect ION board gave certificates to the three receiving the highest number of votes, designating CY itltNius FORREST for the short term, he hav ing received the smallest vote of the three, but more than either of the. other two candi dates; Some seventy-five votes were cast for " C. It. KIGGS, short term," and that gentle man claimed the certificate on the ground that he had received -A majority of the votes cSstfor thenborti term, and brought the cast to court. He - was reprasented by I*KCK ■& OvKItTON. R. A. MKKCUR appeared for FOK*KST. After argument the Court order ed the proceedings quashed.. -THE controver sy-has excited a good deal of interest in the I townships andhas arrayed nearly every voter in Smithficld on o O.side. or the other. Poli tics do not divide the parties, but it is alleged that the graded school at the Centre is too expensive. WE believe the contestants do not intend to abandon the case, but will com-; me NEE new proceedings. • For stale or Exchange—A heavy horafe. In quire (ifJSßlingSi Aoliley & Co., at tlilfc llay Press.
