CHAFFEE died at the residence of his son, in North Warren, Murch 22nd, 1880, in his 94th year, having been born Feb. sth, 1787, being one of the oldest, if not the oldest person in the township where he has lived for forty eight years. He was a man of unusual physical strength; has often been heard to say that 44 he never employed a physician for himself in his life," was never sick enough to lie in bed all day, until within the past few weeks, and did not know from experience what severe pain was, and apparently passed away painless. Many years ago lie retired from active life, only now and then working at his trade to accommodate a neighbor, save cultivating a garden, which he has done since he was over ninety years of age, and planting, pruning, and grafting fruit trees, and even taking care of a few pet flowers. Ho was from New England, and was much attached to Eastern customs; although not a professional man, in early life was chosen Representative of his native State, Rhode Island. He retained his faculties wonderfully to the last. And few men in our countiy have read more books of history, antiquity, science, agriculture and politics, than Mr. C. within the last sixteti years. He has been known to read from six to ten and twelve hours in stundurd works and continue it for weeks. His memory was very retentive, and many of our younger people recall his stories of 44 ye olden times," especially liis diseription of the methods of school teaching, eighty years ago. His wife and several children parsed over the dark river before him, two daughters and four sons remain; together with quite a num ber of grand and great grand children, and one great, great-grand child. Thus he lived to see the filth generation, and as most of the past century he has passed away; like the patriarch of old, he is gathered to his fathers, and entered we trust into the rest that re maincth for the people of God and in the prsence of the Savior whom he had professed for sixty years. f I Arc now prepared tp exhibit their stock of WALL PAPERS, Which they have prepared for the Spring 6c Summer Trade. i This Stock is entirely New, ctnd in addition to the usual variety of Gilt, Satins \ Grounds and tanks, includes CL large variety of elegant Dado I decorations, IN NEW AND BEAUTIFUL DESIGNS.
