KEAN, the population of Towanda is a little
lessthau 3700 at present, hut from indica
tions and rumors there is likely to he quite
an increase before the government enumera

Hon. G. W. KINNEY, whose sudden attack
of illness we noticed a few days since, we
regret to learn, lies in a precarious condition
at his home in Sheshequin. with but slight
hope of recovery
Mrs. MADDEN goes to New York to-day to
purchase a new stock of millinery goods.
C. A. STOWKLL, of Wyalusing, made us a
call yesterday, CAI. is always a welcome
visitor.
I). W. SCOTT, D. I). G. M., is engaged in
installing the officers of the several lodges Of
Odd Fellows in this county. Ho will be in
Barclay this evening.
Mrs. A. E . MEN AUDI, who has been living
at Nortonville, Mich., for several years, will
,eturn to Towanda this spring, and occupy
lier residence just north of the Episcopal
church.
SAM HOUSTON, one of the best teachers
in the county, and an officer of Oscaluwa
Grange lias followed the example of the illus
trious statesman whose name he bears, and
gone west. Ha is a young gentleman of cxcel
ent parts and will make his mark in his new
home. He has the heat wishes of a host ol
friends for ail the success he can aspire to in
whatever direction laudable ambition may
lead him.
I)r. 11. A. UARTLKTT, of Sugar ltim. has
been quite sick for several days. He is im
proving now, however, to the great delight
of his numerous friends and especially those
who need his professional services. His broth
er GKAIIAM has been nursing him for the
past week.
It. TIIUKBER, who has been confined to his
house for some weeks past with a severe at
tack of rhcuraatism,Buppleniented by a touch
of the diphtheria, is able to appear on the
street again, although not strung enough to
attend to business.
Mr. BREWER, of the meat market, will go
to Long Valley and establish a market as soon
as business opens there.
GEORGE E. FOX and wife took their de
parture for their future home near Easton,
Mar}land, to-day Mr. Fox owns a farm
there, and as both his daughters reside in the
neighborhood, he finds the attraction in that
direction stronger than the pleasant associa
tions and ties which have resulted from a res
idence of about forty years in Towanda, and
where he and his family arc universally es
teemed and respected. We hope they may
he prospered in "basket and store," and al
ways enjoy the high social positiuu to which
their worth entitles them.
GALEN OWEN has accepted a position in
the engineer corps of the L. V. R.R.,uiul will
enter upon his new duties Monday morning.
GET, we have no doubt will make an excel
lent engineer, and become a permanent em
ployee of the Company.

aliair is pronounced the most brilliant that
has occurred in Topeka for years. The bride
was dressed in an elegant light Japanese silk,
eut en train, trimmed in old gold ; a wreath
of orange blossoms in her hair; white kid
slippers, and looked very lovely indeed. The
groom was dressed in a suit of plain black. A
iurge number of handsome and appropriate
presents were presented to the happy couple
by relatives and friends.
