A dispatch from Milwaukee to the Chi cago Times says that Miss Lavina G. Ode!!, of Janesville, the well-known wo man lawyer, died there yesterday morn ing. Senator Thurman was at the Capitol building, in Washington, yesterday, and appeared to be in good health. lie did not, however, occupy his seat in the Sen ate. ChaiDs M. Ilendley has been promoted to the position of executive clerk at the White House, to till the vacancy caused by the removal of Charles L. Chapman, wiih whom a scandal was associated. The Senate exodus committee yesterday heard J. G. Lewis and James T. Rapier, the latter being a colored man. Rapier gave a number of illustrations as to the bad treatment of the blacks in the South. When Kearney's case was called in the superior court yesterday, the prisoner's counsel moved for a postponement for two weeks on account of the illness of his client. Judge Freelon, after hearing ar gument, postponed the case till Monday April 5. Reports say the agitator is com pletely prostrated by the result of the election. While Miss Lizzie Sluar , of Lawrence ville was sweeping, her clothing took lire from a stove. Her mother tried to ex tinguish the flames, and in her alarm gave the cry of Are. A neighbor came to the rescue and succeeded in putting out the flames, but not until Miss Stuart was So severely burned that her recoeery is doubtful. Mrs. Stewart's arras were al so burned badly.
