MR GEO. W. BIDLEMAN, of Tunkhnnnock,
has been appointed to a clerkship in the office
of State Treasurer Butler,at a salary of SI2OO
per year. He is an intelligent and honest
gentleman, and will doubtless be a faithful
officer. He is the present chairman of the:
Republican county committee, and has long
been an enthusiastic worker in the cause of
Republicanism. Mr. Butler is, we believe, i
the first State officer who has recognized this j

There is now building in Newburg, on the
Hudson, a steam pleasure yacht for Mr. Rob
ert A. Packer of the Lehigh Valley railroad,
which when completed will be the largta ,
tieetest and most elegant pleasure craft here
abouts. The boat is to be 73 feet keel and
as wide as it. can be built and pass through
the locks. Its engine is to be exceedingly
powerful, and jtho contractors guarantee a
speed of not less than fourteen knots an hour.
The vessel throughout will be, n model of ele
gance and comfort. The saloon will be ar
ranged so as to afford accomoda ion for twelve
guests night or day. The berths will be built
: fter the fashion of those in use on sleeping
cars and during the day can be folded up.
leaving the interior of the yacht r >omv and
more attractive. We understand it is Mr.
Packer's intention to keep his splendid yacht
on Cayuga Lake most of the time, but it will
be used in making bis annual summer excur
sion to the St. Lawrence. The builders have
agreed to have the yacht finished and allout
by the middle of May.— lthaca. Journal.
In the Athens < Scribe of January 6, 1842,
was the following: .
"MARRIED.—In Geileva. Vermont, Mr. James
Bee, to Miss Ann Flower."
'•Well has the little buisy Bee,
Improved life's shining hour;
He gathers honey, now, all day,
From one sweet chosen Fower;
And from this hive, if Heaven please,
He'll raise a swarm of little Bees."
I think I clipped that item from the Star,
a humorous paper of Richmond. Virginia,
edited by "Corporal Streeter." It was lot
claimed as original by him, so that its oiigin
is earlier than 1842. I recently .read that it
was printed by Brick Pomeroy in 1852, as it
has been by others, but its author to me is
unknown. By the wav, soon after I com
menced the Scribe, in 1,841. the western part
of your village was called Villemont, with
Brigham's new house as the capital; Faetory
ville and Milltovvn were pleasant hamlets;
Waverly and Sayro had not then been named
were unknown as such.
O. X. WOUDEN.
March 13,1550.
The above note was sent to the Waverly
Advocate.
