Grant before his return.
Chi ranee Atwell was arrnignc 1 in New
York yesterday for systematic swindling
by false pretences. He was formerly a
wealthy tea broker, and ruined by dissi
pation. He was once in the tea business

Great excitement exists in Harrisburg

pardon made by Keinble, Rumbcrger,

will not be pronounced until the 29th inst.,
and the early application for pardon is
considered indecent haste.

sentatives of the various Irish organiza

Ex-Secretary McCulloch intends to

Judge Harlan, of the Supreme Court of
the United States, issued a supplemental
order yester-day, enjoining the Wabash R.
R. and American Union from doing the
public telegraph business offered at rail
way stations, and from doing anything in

tracts between the railroad and the Wes

The meeting of the Ohio Republican
State Committee showed a sentiment of
unexpected strength for Mr. Blaine, the
friends of the Secretary Sherman being
outvoted in his own State. It is thought
possible, however, that the supporters of
Mr. Blaine will make no contest in the
Convention in the hope of winning the
vote of the entire delegation at Chicago
should Secretary Sherman be withdrawn
during the balloting.
By a compilation made in the Interior
Department, it is found that the Govern
ment gets by the agreement with tin; Ute
Indians 11,000,000 acres of land for about
10 cents per acre. This price includes
the estimated cost of removal, pay for the
Ute improvement surveys and the fund to
be set aside for the annual annuity of the
Utes.
The impression that the Utes are all to
leave Colorado is erroneous. Only about
one thousand will leave the State, while
TOGO will remain upon farms owned by
them in serveralty.
Only a small fraction of the land thus
secured to the Government is agricultural
laud, the greater portion being tit only
for pasturage. There is. however, sup
posed to be an immense store of mineral
wealth in the reservation.
