There is a regular boom in the "Sterling" j
Organ business. At least we judge so from j
the fact 1 hat Mr. MANVILLE is kept buisy
delivering them.
We hear of a disreputable row in one of the
barber-shops of town last evening, in which
pistols, spittoons, Ac., were brought into !
requisition, and at least one colored gentle
man went home witli a sore head. Such
things ought not to be.
We noticed, some weeks since, the accident
al poisoning of Mr. FRED BARNEY'S hand,
while sliding a horse. About one month pre
vious to the accident ho bad taken and acci
dental policy with W. G. TRACY, and Satur
day received payment in full for the time he
was unable, to work.
The First National Bank has $421,097.53 in
deposits, and its discounts amount to a little
more, $426, 202.95. The institution also has
$145,550.00 in bonds; legal tender notes, coin,
Ac., $30,545.88. Due from banks and U. S.
Treasurer, $101,483.11. This is a showing
that financial men would call good.
Charity eovereth a multitude of sins, hut.
poverty disclose smorc. Poor clothes blind
the eyes of many, who, being faultless of the
sin of poverty, and with clean hearts in re
gard to everthing forbidden in law, both di
vine and human, cannot look upon the poor
and erring with any degree of allowance. It.
is Hindi more pleasant for them to "pass by
ou the other side."
WARD THOMPSON, CIIKALKY GORMAN,
FRANK CKONIN, and FRANK CHILSON broke
into the office of N. TIDD, Esq., Saturday
noon, while Mr. T. was at dinner, and stole
several dollars in money. They were arrested
by officer BURNS and locked in jail for a hear
ing. Tin y are ali of them incorrigible, and it
would he a hi ssing to them to send them to
the House of Refuge, where they will he sub
jected to strict disciplin.

The Methodist, says there is one inconveni
ence of generosity, which sesihlc people ought
to do something to remove. If a business
man makes a liberal donation, lie is straitway
sot upon by everybody for other gifts. This
is the most ingenious process for curing
men of generosity that could bo devised; the
punishment, for a noble net is so severe that
the average man will not repeat if. After
such an experiece, with a hndred begging ap
plications per day, he will naturally seek to
save his time and feelings by getting it under
stood that he is not a liberal person.

On the 21st ult. the bar of Lycoming county
held their tenth annual banquet at the llerdic '

tee: If I were simply to sav, "Compliments
and regrets" for Saturday afternoon, it would
j he too formal and cold to express NIV appreci
ation of, and regard for the Lycoming bar. 1
remember your uniform kindness and con
sideration, and desire to intimate to you that
you have A warm place near m\ heart. Your
bar is celebrated throughout the state, not
only for its ability hut for the social element
that so largely enters into its composition,
and also for the kind feeling of the members
toward eaeli other. Am indeed sorrv that I
cannot attend your dinner on Saturday, and
eat what the law (lex) provides, us well as
