Westfleld is improving its church and par sonage property. A Christmas tree at this church bore abundant fruit for the pastor, Rev. 11. PECK, and family. Lawrenceville has repaired its church, put ting it in comfortable shape. Diphtheria is scourging Lawrenceville and Harrison Valley. I has also been prevalent at Smithtield and Troy. Considerable interest in the revival meet ings at Mansfield. Rev. E. H. CItANMER, of Monroeton, has been appointed preacher in charge at New Albany. A barn has been built and other improve ments effected at Monroeton. Rev. F. M. SMITH, of Canton, has had the misfortune to lose his horse, which broke its leg and had to be killed. Rev. I'. J. SAN FORD, of Wells and Webb's Mills, has been assisted by Mr. IRA P. BEN NETT, of Painted Post, in a successful revival effort. Terrible roads during the ''.January thaw." Wayfaring men and their horses suffered. Oh ! for good sleighing. CRYSTAL LODGE A NNINERSARY .—Last evening was the fifth anniversary of Crystal Lodge, K. of 11. of this borough, and the oc casion was rendered memorable by very in teresting exercises. The large hall in which the Lodge meets was well filled—some two hundred members and invited guests being present. Dictator I)r. D. L. PRATT, was master of ceremonies. After singing tin; ope ning ode of the Order, Rev. Doctor .STEW ART offered prayer, which was followed by an address of welcome, couched in most ap propriate and lifting words, by the Dictator. Rev. C. 11. WEIGHT delivered a carefully prepared address, dtscriptive of die Order, its aims and objects, and was listened to with attention and evident interest, by the breth ren and guests. Past Dictatoa BOWMAN, of Loyal Sock Lodge, being in the audience, made some timely remarks. There was sin cere regret expressed on account of the indis position of Brother Km RIDGE, which pre vented him from giving an interesting history of Crystal Lodge; no one is better qualified for such an office, as Mr. K. has always taken a deep interest in everything pertaining to the order and lodge, and is probably better posted on the subject than any other member in this section. Mr. S. W. RODGERS gave some interesting statistics and information, and read a beautiful little poem founded on the mystic momigram, "O. M. A." But the most eloquent and convincing arguments to the great and good work being accomplish ed and the rapid growth of the beneficent or der, were the figures on the walls, proclaim ing in golden characters that over #2,170,000 has been paid to the widows and orphans of deceased brothers; that in seven years 2,000 lodges have been instituted, with an aggre gate membership of 70,000. In tivcyesrs Crys tol lodge has grown from ten members to sixty. Mrs. BALDWIN and Miss SMITH kindly ad ded to the pleasure of the audience by exhibi tions of their vocal powers. They are both good vocalists and did themselves credit and won the applause of all present. When the '* feast of reason " had subsided, the sisters of Mystic lodge spread a bountiful collation to which all present did ample jur tice, At eleven o'clock the party began to disperse, ieeling that " it had been good for them to be there." The entertainment cannot fail of good re sults !o Crystal lodge, as many of our most intelligent and refined citizens were present. Many of our citizens who have never used the Loyal Sock are doing so this year. Why? Because it is from one dollar to one dollar and twenty-five cents chapcr than the harder coals, and it gives as good satisfaction. Superintendent's Notes. January 13. — Visited the following schools : Towanda, Scott's, Laura McGill; Nail Works, Clayton Osborn; Wysox, Fairview, F. A. Thompson; Laning, Cyntha Bull. Scott's school is small but interest and good work manifest. Mr. Osborn has a large school, and is succeeding finely. He ought to have power to compel a number of larger ' boys—not pupils to attend school, who spend i most of the day riding down hill near the school house —or better, we should have a 1 compulsory law. Mr. Thompson is a thoro. teacher and good disciplinarian—well adapted jto the charge of some Graded School. His drill of small pupils in reading, and on large finely colored wall maps of Bradford county, ! and Wysox twp., made by pupils, was excel lent. A much larger attendance than usual at the Laning school, is the best evidence of the success of the teacher.
