Fourth Street Church
In celebration of the payment of the
entire church debt, the congregation of
the State Street United Brethron
church, Eighteentli and State streets,
will at to-morrow morning's service
witness the burning of the last note
against the church property. The pas
tor is the Rev. E. A. G. Bossier. He
will have as the of his morning
■ermon "The Rock-built Church."
The ascension of Christ will be the
•übjeet of sermons in many churches,
in observance of Ascension Day last
Thursday.
At Fine Stroet Presbyterian church
the pastor, the Rev. Mr. Mudge, will
preach at both services. The morning
theme will be "Apprehension vs. Mis
apprehension," Philippians 3:12. The
choir will sing "Happy Is the Man"
(West) and "Like Noah's Weary
Dove" (Otis) at this service. In the
evening the Pokoson Tribe of Red Men
will be the guests of the church and the
sermon will be "Christ and the Com
monplace." Mark 6:48. The choir will
sing "Like as a Father" (Marston)
and Mr. Sutton will sing "Give Ear to
iMv Prayer. O God" (Berwald). Spe
cial plans are being made for the Sun
day school session in the afternoon.
The Rev. D. W. Montgomery, who is
supported by the school in his home
mission work, will be present to make a
short address to the school. The roll
of classes will be called, when it is
hoped that one of the largest attend
ances of the year will be reported. Sev
eral of Hie classes have sent out cards,
one of them asking for an attendance
of 200 for the afternoon.
On Wednesday evening at the mid
week service the topic for considera
tion will be "The Voiceless Vision."
The continued increase in attendance at
these service? is the surest sign t'uat
they arc helpful to those who attend.
On Friday evening the Mission Cir
cle will have supper together at 6
o'clock and then go to their regular
meeting at 7.30 o'clock. Mrs. William
Jennings is to be present. The topic
will be "India."
Quartet at Grace Church
The quartet of Grace M. E. church
will sing "The Angels' Serenade." by
Braga. arranged with sacred words.

The annual Epworrh League anniver
sary service and rally will foe held to
morrow evening at 7.30 o'clock in the
Stevens Memorial Methodist Episcopal
church, Thirteenth and Vernon streets.
The Rev. Dr. George Edward Reed, who
for many years was president of Dick
inson College, will be the speaker. Ross
K. Bergstresser will be the chairman of
the meeting. At the morning service
the Rev. William R. Swartz will preach.
IDr. Clayton Albert Sanieker is still con
fined to the house as the result of his
recent operation at the Harrisburg hos
pital. He is getting on very well and
expects to be in his pulpit again Sun
day, May 23.
The Rev. W. S. Booth will continue
the series of sermons on '' Epochs of
Christianity" on Sunday evening by
preaching on "The Rise of Denomina
tions." This sermon will be illustrated
with lantern slides.
On account of the absence of the
pastor last Sunday, the Fourth Street
Church of God will observe Mothers'
Day to-morrow. In addition to the spe
cial music by the choir one hundred
men will sing "My Mother's Bible"
at the evening service.
