Millersburg, May 13.—The board of !
governors of the good roads committee 1
of the Millersburg Motor Club to-day j
completed plans for the active partici- I
pation of the club in the State-wide j
Good Roads Day. on May 26.
It is not necetwary to hold member
ship in the motor club to join in its
work on Good Roads Day movement.
Those who will go to work on the roads
are asked to register at Watts' jewelry
store or at Hoy's general store. Car
owners who will put their autos into
service are also a-sked to register. By
this method the club will be better afcfe
to place the workers in gangs and will
know just how many cars will be avail
able.

stantial repairs are necessary have al

To Fix the Berrysburg Road
The repairs will be confined to the
township road from Millersburg to
Berrysburg and from the latter place
to Elizabethville, a distance of about
fourteen miles. The road from here to
Halifax is in good condition and the
highway from Millersfourv to Eliza
beth ville is now being repaired by the
State Highway Department, so that all
local effort will be confined to the
Berrysburg township roads.
While scoops, plows, scrapers and
teams, will be provided by the motor
club, yet individuals volunteering their
labor on Good Roads Day are asked to
bring shovels, rtkes aud picks, if pos
sible.
Ladies to Provide Luncheons
The ladies of town ami townships
are asked to prepare regular picnic
baskets for the day, and those who are
willing to meet this request are u<*ed
to notify H. M. Kairehilds, of the club.
The ladies and baskets will be taken
over the route before the lunch hour,
and ample time given them to prepare
the meal for the road workers.
All volunteers aud car. drivers will
assemble at East Dark on Good Roads
Day, in ample time to permit leaving
Millersburg promptly at 7 o'clock,
cars will call at the several homes for
the 1 adiee after 10 o'clock.

Speak at Bible Conference Open

The many friends of Miss Josephine
Colt, one of the Stough party who pre
ceded the coming of Dr. Stough, and
had charge of the Workers' Training
class in this city, will be in Harrisburg
May 22, 23, 24 and 25, under the au
spices of the Harrisburg Monthly Bible
Conference Association. She is no
longer connected with, the Stough
party.
Miss Colt will have entire charge
of the Saturday night meeting, May 22,
anil also the Sunday afternoon meeting
of May 23. These gatherings to be
held in the auditorium of the First
Baptist church, Second and Pine
streets.
Monday and Tuesday afternoon and
evening May 24 and 25, the Rev. Wil
,liam 11. Pike, dean of the Practical
Bible Training School of Bible School
Park, X. V., with Mrs. Pike, both of
whom are singers, as well as teachers
in the Bible School, will, with Miss Colt
conduct the Bible study.
In the afternoon Mr. Pike will give
"Studies in *he First Book of John."
On Monday evening, his subject will
be "The War Faith," and Tuesday
evening, "The Wonders of Faith" ta
ken from the eleventh chapter of He
brews.
This conference is t<o be the closing
conference for the season. The Stough
hymn book will be used and many of
the choir under Professor Clippinger
will attend.
Architect For Lebanon High School
Lebanon, May 13.—Architect Ab
ner A. Ritcher, of this city and Read
ing, was chosen to prepare the plans
and specifications for the new Lebanon
High school building to be erected at
a cost of % 150,000, by the Lebanon
school board. He was chosen out of a
party of twelve competing architects.
Harrisbnrg Hospital
The Harrisburg Hospital is open
djiily except Sunday, between 1 and
2 o'clock p. m. for dispensing medical
iiilvice and prescriptions to those un
able to vay for them.
BEGGARLY PITTANCE PAID
WIVES OF FRENCH SOLDIERS
Paris, May 13. —Conditions which
prevail in work rooms opened to en
able the wives of soldiers to earn a
living, the "Petit Parisien" says are
deplorable. There aro now six hundred
of these establishments in Paris, half
of them subventioned. Many of those
which are operated under private
auspices are declared to be no better
than sweatshops. . Even in the best
managed of those in the subventioned
class, women are able to earn an aver
age of only 36 cents a day for eight
and one-half hours' work.
In some of the work rooms conduct
ed bv subcontractors, where army
shirts and other military supplies are
made, the "Petit Parisien" asserts
women get only ten cents a day, while
many operatives exchange their serv
ices for board and lodging.

Women has taken up the question of
affording relief.
To Abolish Horse Racing During War
May 13. —A movement
looking to the abolition of all horse
racing until the end of the war, has
been started privately in the House
of Commons. As legislation to bring
about a cessation of the sport might
lie attended with considerable difficul
ties, the parliamentary leaders have
suggested the preparation of a mem
orial to the jockey club asking that
body to prohibit all race meetings.
HOLDS DOCTORS NOT LIABLE
Federal Judge Interprets Harrison Act
on Drug Sales
Pittsburgh Pa., May 13.—The
prosecution of Dr. Jin Moy, a Chinese
physician, under the Harrison drug act,
was halted in the Federal District
Court here yesterday when Judge W.
H. S. Thompson ruled that only persons
named in the act—manufacturers, im
porters and dealers—were liable under
its provisions for selling drugs.
Dr. Moy > attorneys argued that he
was charged with prescribing drugs,
but under the law he was permitted to
prescribe as much as one-fourth grain
of morphine and two grains of opium,
and they maintained he had kept with
in the law. E, Lowry Humes, United
States District Attorney, said he would
appeal from Judge Thompson's decision
to the United States Supreme Court.
