Only Through the Timely Efforts of
His Father
Waynesboro, April 22.—Striking a
match that he found while wandering
about his bed room at 5 o'clock yes
terday morning, Mark, 3-year-old son of
'Mr. and Mrs. Howard Honodel, Rouzer
ville, set fire to his night gown and
soon was enveloped in a sheet of flame.
Jlis shrieking cries roused the lad's fa
ther from his slumbers and the parent
quickly smothered the blaze.
In rescuing his «hild Mr. Honodel;
was severely burned about the hands!

Mysterious Blaze Caused Much Damage
and Rendered Three Families
Homeless Yesterday
Carlisle, April 22.—Fire broke out
in the row of three houses in Kast
Chapel avenue and Kast street yester
day afternoon shortly after 1 o 'clock
and in one hour they were practically
in ruins, being not only gutted out by
fire but damaged throughout by water.
The houses are owned by W. Linn 'Mc-
Culouh.
Dense smoke hampered the firemen:
in their work. The origin is a mystery.'
All of the houses were gutted and dam
aged by water, while few belongings
were saved. The tenants are Mrs. Har-:
der, Mrs. Agues Evans and Howard!

PHYSICIAN'S WIFE IS DEAD
Mrs. Rosa V. Holland Succumbed Sud
deuly From Grip
Chamber»burg, April 22. —Following
an illness of but a few days due to an
attick of grip, Mrs. Rosa" V. Holland
died at her home in Fayetteville on
Tuesday evening at 6 o'clock.
Mrs. Holland was a member of the
First Lutheran church of this place.
Her husband. Dr. Holland, has long been
a widely known physician of the coun
ty, his practice extending to the ad
jacent one of Adams. Only yesterday,
upon application, he was admitted to
membership to the Franklin County
'Medical Society. Besides her husband,
she is survived bv two sisters and two
brothers. Nelle, of Brooklyn; Miss
'Mame, of Harrisburg; William, a State
forester at Lanegburg, Bedford county,
and Howard, east of Graeffenburg.
The funeral will be held on Friday
morning at the home at 9 o'clock. In
terment-will be made in Cedar Grove
cemetery.

but as the present conditions had been
condemned by the .State Board and;
there was a report that the board would'

The vote was: In the South ward, 52
for and 38 against; in the North ward,j
98 for and 30 against.
To Take Over New Road
Gettysburg, April 22.—For the pur
pose of making the necessaiy surveys
preparatory to the acquirement of the
road from York to Shippensburg
-through various Adams county t&wns a
gang of eight State Highway engineers
are now at Arendtsville. It is stated
that the road will be taken over by
the State on June 1 and that it will
be generally improved as soon as pos
sible afterward.

Breaks Arm in Fall on Stairs
Marietta, April 22.—IMrs. S. E. Wis
ner, an aged resident of this place, fell
down a flight of stairs and broke her
right arm and was otherwise seriously
injured. Her husband was buried only
a short time ago.
Body Buried in Native Town
Maytown, April 22.—The body of
iMrs. Barbara Barnet, of Waverly, New
York, was brought here yesterday for
burial in the Union cemetery. Her
maiden name was Stape, and she was
•born here. She was a member of the
Methodist Episcopal church. Death was
due to a complication of diseases.

Movees House 100 Years Old
Conestoga Centre, April 22.—Jacob
F. Murray, of this place, the "pioneer
house mover" as he is called, yester
day completed the task of moving a
two-story frame dwelling, 24x43 feet,
from its old location to a new one ISO
feet higher on the farm of Elmer E.
Zeacher. The house is nearly one hun
dred years old. It will be remodeled.
George Mackley Dies at Pittsburgh
, Marietta, April 22.—George Mack
ley, 77 years old, a former Mariettian,
died at Pittsburgh of a complication of
diseases after a long illness. He was a
hat manufacturer and commission mer
chant. He leaves a wife, three children
and a number of grandchildren.
Mrs. G. D. M Clouser
Word was received here yesterday
of the death of Mrs. Clouser, wife of
the Rev. Dr. G v D. M. Clouser, at her
home in Pemberton, N. J., Tuesday
afternoon. The Rev. Mr. and Mrs.
Clouser formerly resided in thie city.
