Central High won the opening clash
for local scholastic basketball supre
macy form Tech High last evening by
the "score of 27 to 23. Tin? game was
played in the Chestnut street audi
torium and the big hull was taxed to
care for the 1,200 rooters who turned
cur to eheer their representatives on to
victory.
Tech's inability to tind the baskets
in the second half missing shot after
shot lost the game for the Maroon and
Grey. At that the losers scored ouc*-
more from the field than the victors,
successful foul goals by Ford, who
played li s first game iu three weeks,
clinching the game.
Ford played a splendid game on the
floor but his performance of scoriug
iiiteen of eighteen fouls was a feature
of the game. Melville who first tossed
foul goals for Tech made three good out
©f eleven iln»i Harris later made four
out of five. Both teams played good
defensive games but the Tecb forwards
took too many chances of scoring field
goals, their efforts in the majority of
eases being futile. The losers were nJt
outplayed to any extent. At the call
for half time the score stood 12 to 6
in favor of Central.
Rote's individual work helped Cen
tral a lot. He had a habit of making
the other team foul and that makes
points for his team. Winn played well
at center. Sehe!fer. the Tech captain,
played a good game at guard and Har
ris showed splendid dodging tactics.
Beck's one field goal was a feature of

to Boost Their Organization
Efforts are being made by the mem
bership committee of the men's class
of Derry Street United Brethreu church,
Fifteenth and Derry streets, to boost
the attendance to 350 to-morrow. Uir-1
