the annual Lamberton oratorical con
test held in the High School auditorium
yesterday afternoon. The other three
prizes were awarded George Fox. Sam
uel Froehlich and William Bingham.
The subject of the oration was "Frank
lin as a Diplomat"
The entertainment was arranged In
the form of a Joint Lincoln and Wash
ington birthday program. Music was
furnished by the choir, orchestra and
the girl's glee club. The Judges for
the contest were the Rev. Dr. Clayton
Albert Smucker, the Rev. Dr. William
N. Yates and Arthur Hull.

depressed to the lowest level of the
current movement during to-day's
short stock market session, declines
rai ging from 1 to almost 2 points in
leading issues. The selling was all in
thu first hour, however, with substan
tial recovery in the later dealings.
; Miscellaneous specialties also woro af
fected by the early depression, with
declines to new minimus. Conditions
were further aggravated by renewed
weakness in foreign exchange and the
grain markets. The closing was heavy.

amounts and other leaders showed
signs of renewed liquidation, Union Pa
cific, Canadian Pacific, Reading and
