Long Maintained
By Associated Press,
• New Yonk, Feb. 6.—Efforts to lift
prices above yesterday's closing prices
invet with indifferent success iu the
course of to-day 'a two 'hour session of
the stuck market. The opening gave
promise of strength and activity, some
of the weak issues, notably Southern
iPaeiflc, scoring smart gains. Improve
ment was noit long maintained, how
ever, tihe list felling back on renewed
selling of Southern Pacific and other
railroads. Northwestern lost 3 pollute,
declining to its minimum of 122, and
Norfolk and Western fell 2V S . In the
industrials Baldwin locomottve common
and preferred suffered loesos, likewise
American linseed pfd. There were off
setting features, howovar, in a further
rise in Bothlehem Steel to a new high
price, steadiness in U. S. steei and re-
11
coveries of more than 2 podnts in sugar
shares. Tlte closing waa 'irregular.
