Bresnahan Willing to Manage Cubs Un
der Three-year Contract
' hicago. Oct. 20.——Roger Bresnahan
1 is willing to succeed iHlank O'Day as
manager of the Cubs, providing Presi
dent Thomas hands him a three-year
: contract calling for $15,000 per year,
; There is little doubt but that O'Day
is done as the Cubs' pilot. No official
information has been issued to this ef
feet, but the rumors have been so
strong lately that Bresnahan was to be
made manager that Roger yesterday
gave out his ultimatum to the club.
Bresnahan this year drew down $6,000
as a plain catcher and his 'boost for an
$N,500 increase to assume the responsi
bilities as manager is not thought un
reasonable here, especially when taking
| into consideration what a winning ball
club can do in (his town.
If Bresnahan gets control, there is
! going to be a general weeding out of
I undesirables, for Roger knows the in
sides of the various cliques which rend
ed the Cu4>s asunder this past season
and he would likely get rid of every
trouble maker on th • team.

Covering a Period of Five Years-
Laying Plans for Game
Philadelphia, Oct. JO. —With Un
official announcement in Washington
yesterday afternoon that the Army
Navy football. game will be played ai
Franklin P'icld on November -8, the
athletic authorities of the University
of Pennsylvania immediately began
preparing for the event.
Information to the effect that tlie
athletic otlicials of the two Government
institutions had signed a live ye ir
agreement was received from Captain
Herman J. Koehler, of the Army Ath
letic Association anil Lieutenant-! .in
mander A. P. Fairfield of the Naval
Academy by E. J. Berlet, chairman of
the Philadelphia army and navy com
mittee.
Three of the live games are to be
played in this city and the other two
iu New York. Both Captain Koehler
and Lieutenant Fairfield expressed their
appreciation of the liberal offer o f the
Philadelphia American League baseball
team relative to the use of Shibe Park,
for the games and regretted that it
will be impossible for them to accept
the offer this year.
Through the holding of the (fame on
Franklin Field the Philadelphia com
mittee will be relieved of all responsi
bility in connection with financing the
game, stand construction, ticket distri
bution. etc. This work now will
done by the authorities of the Univer
sity of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Berlet expressed his delight
with the success of the Philadelphia
committee, which has been working
earnestly since last December to bring
about the return of the game to' this
city. He announced that the commit
tee probably will be continued to ail
vocate and arrange for the construc
tion ol a huge athletic stadium in
Philadelphia. The committee expects
the co-operation of the University of
Pennsylvania in this proposed under
taking.
COLLINS MAY LEAH YANKS
Trade Is Reported by Which Highland
ers Get Star Infielder
New York, Oct. 20.—1t was learned
trorn a semi-official source here yester
day that Kddie Collins, second base
man and leading batter of the Phila
delphia Athletics, will be playing man
ager of the Yankees next season,
j Connie Mack is said to 'be ready to
offer Collins to the Farrellites in ex
! change for an infielder or two. a wad
i of money and relief from a three years'
Contract. This move is believed to be
i the first step in Mack's retrenchment
, plan. The Athletics, although thev
! were champions of the world, showed a
deficit for the season of 1914 and Mack
I is willing to part with ( ollins to cut
| expenses for next year.
If the deal is consummated, Collins
; will plav second base, besides mauae
i ing the Yanks.
State Starting to Tune Up
| State College. Pa.. Oct. 20.—Penn
| tate ' began their preparation for the
| Harvard game at Cambridge. The men
j played poo,- football at several stages
I or the workout, but this was somewhat
! due to two of the regular 'varsity men
being out. ( aptain Tobin was worked
at quarterback yesterdav, with Edger
| ton, Underhill and Oiaric in the back
j n Wood was Bent to the scrubs
and Thomas was gi-en a rest. The
Freshmen gave the "varsity a stiff prac
tice and scored v.n them twice on line
plunges from the 10-yard line.
