EXCITING' NCIDENT IN A BUFFALO
HUNT.—Phe iii6St. Innocent animal,
when lirouiht td bay, will fight. This
is also true of the wicked appearing
buffalo, although he is generally in no
wise dangerous. On the first of Decem
ber, 1870, two young, but experienced
hunters, named respectively Fisher and
Miller, canitt upon a herd of btfffaio
in the southern part of Nebraska.—
• They each selected an animal and fired,
wounding both. One of the buffaloes,
enraged by his wound, made a dash at
Fisher, who unfortunately had fastened
in his gun a shell from" the cartridge,
which rendered it pseleSs. Miller
jumped, bet feet Ins. friend .afut - t,h e
brute; and fired, but vilthOut; mortal
ef
fect. The charging buffalo gave Miller
a severe hurt, knocking him about ten
feet, and tearing his coat with his horns
from skirt to collar. Luckily for the
young man, he came down -.erect upon
his feet, but the enraged animal was
upon him immediately, when, jumping
overbia bead; he seated blmseff upon
the buffalo's back,- where

cific Railroad, a noble "savage" of the
Kickapoo persuasion . was loafing
around with an'eye to , possible scalps,
when he perceived in the distance /a
locomotive coming down the track to
wards him at a 1:20 gait. This abori
gine had never witnessed anything of
the kind before ; and in his simplicity
imagined it to beta new description of
buff - Mo. He accordingly made prepa
rations for its capture, hoping to, take
the rat prize at the approaching an
nua exhlhitlen of the Kickapoo Agri
cult, ral Society. To Anake asure thing,
hitestened one end of his lasso around
Dili body, and when the engine got
near enough, tossed the noose over the
smoke-Stack. The Iron horse did not
stop, however, but the engineer wit
nessed a most striking and original
performance of the "flying trapeze,
never before attempted by any other
Injun.
