SOCIABLE EXTRAORDINARY.— very
pleasant affair took place at the house of Mrs.

Presbyterian Sabbath school.
The f ‘ eature of the evening was "The Art
Gallery," fir admission to which a fee of fifteen
cents was freely betowed. Master Charles Will

attendant at the door. The designs rind models
were true to nature. Programmes, printed for
the occasion, were placed in the bands of the
guests, uporl which the names of the master pie

specimens : No. 1, " Spoiled Child, Virginia,"

" Mustered in and. Mustered Out—l. T. Burns"
was mustard in, and mustard out—of a dish, of
course. " Lay of the Last Minstrel, from Barns,"
was a hen's egg of goodly prep:lenient!. "Light
of Other Days" was—n tallow dip. " Things to
Adore, A. Lock," were iv lock and key. "Ruins
in China, S. M. Ash," were represented by some

" Time." " Can't Le Beat, frotiv-0. l Ardenne,"

was a bridle—" seen," when looked u p o n.—
"Drive Through the Wood, N. Ail,'' was a nail
driven through a piece of wood. " CdUse of the
Revolution, 0. IL T.," was all about a . little tea,
which may stand for "Oh, how taxed," also.
Of the statuary : " Bust of a Commentator,
E. Rose," was a " common tater." The most
complimentary of all, and ono fur which we have
no duubt each guest paid the fifteen cents most
cheerfully, for so economical a ebinginm, "Bust
of a Prominent Citizen, L. Giese ) " was one's self
looking in a gbiss. "Last of the 140 e; (in moci i

Refreshments were served, the cheerful rooms
were filled with, the Joyful sqund of music) and

exist as to the grade of tb'e road as laid out.—
Starting frem the tweet termination, of Queen

able grade, exceeding, in no place, five feet to, the

grade not exceeding six feet - to the hundred, and
the summit, going thence westerly is gained with
a grade not exceeding 3 feet to:the bundred,exeept

where the grade, When the road is 'fleithed, Will
be testi than eight feet.to the' hundred. 'Coming
from Marsh creek, therstnemit is gained by going
a distance of one mile and 96' rods ; and in no

fhe grade of this road has been,'hompare4 to

Weftisore hill road is from ,r 1 ,to 20 feet o the,
hundred in•sevital places, So also pie the hills
on'the Pine creek road. Persons familiar with
the road leading to Samuel DiCkinson's residence,
may judge better of the grade, when they know
that in no place on,the pew road, te,th,e, grade as
heavy as . botvieeiV hero and his hens's: 'There are
several miles on , the "'plank road", to, 'Pogo with
more, grade than any place on the road proposed.
I understand 'there are two other routes spo
ken of: the first being substantially the old road
by Samuel Dickinson's, up asjar as David-Hei
se s, and thence down Heise run to Marsh creek.
The ather route is down the ".plank reed," as
far as the, bridge , this i side .of the Ildirehtlat ;
thence down tho canal, as it is came," to unite
with the old Marsh creek road at the most eligi
ble point.
Most of your readers know the route from
Wellsboro to Mr. Heise's, as a very long bill of
heavy grade in many places; and those who
have fished down Ileiseyun,..know that from the
summit to Marsh' creek is a very heavy: desttend•
ing grade, apparently.. Thelriends of that ton to
say, - however', that
- the grade, from :ITellaber9 to
Heise's'pkaylie very materially' itiiproved . ): and
that the grade down Bela° 'run is 'near' as
heavy.as-it , appears to be. ' ,
, The - other route is diametrically oppoied to the
great O:bjeot of the road—that is a direct road,
by the shortest and best-route, -from Pia creek
