Dr. Buck's discourse was fiery heautiful,and

Thanksgiving—that is those whohad any thanks
giving in anticipation; for thanksgiving in this
sense means a good dinner, made savory and re
galing by the union of friends. We were - not
troubled with such a prospect, though bur hos
tess, of the Wellsboro Hotel, certainly did her
share to make the dinner good, and the day

During the delivery of the sermon, and in that
part where the nice distinction was made between
God and nature, Creator and creature, a personal,
individual Godhead and Pantheism, there was a
most beautiful ocular demonstration of the Law,
but wo could not look beyond it and see the Lair
giver. It was the reflection of, the .surt, which
frequently shot froth 'under - the clouds and pic
tured the stained glass windows in all their bean
tiful colors upon the wall. The 'windows are
pretty, but these sun pictures of them wore much
more beautiful. It would take an artist a long
time to paint such a picture; and then the hues
would be like those , of the dead and decaying
leaves, compered to their rich• colors when put
ting on their death tints, 'in the fever of their
last hours—by the side of the living colors so in—
stantaneously 'printed by the Author of all beau
ty ! But who is the Alija ? Where l is Hel,
Who has seen Him ? How can we know
except as we :tee Him reflecteilihns in nature
Our senses are too limited to look heyeid. It
must he faith that carries any one farther ;4124
what is faith but uutural belief? What we see,
we know : what wo believe, we think we denow ;
abd who shall say that anpther man's thought is
farther froth lthe truth than his own( Hia , thinks
it is, and that it all. rt. is God' in - Man 'that'
thinks, or else the Devil ;l i ned if the latter, then
there must he more than one Author—and that
leads us to Peljtheism, which is worse than Pan
theism. These are the,mere speculations of men.

living God, are idols ; and ell who builln up gods
for themselves, whether of stone or mental mech
